Summary of Role

We are looking for a highly motivated Higher Scientific Officer to join our laboratory and lead our ongoing molecular profiling initiatives. The postholder will have responsibility for carrying out and co-ordinating databasing and processing of tissue samples from a range of sources for further analysis. This will include methylation array profiling, and bulk / single-cell sequencing of DNA and RNA, either on instruments within our laboratory (MiSeq, 10X Chromium X), or via third-party providers internally or externally. Although working closely with two bioinformaticians within the lab to provide formal analysis, some experience with data analysis and report generation would be desirable. There will be ample opportunity to work across multiple areas of research within the lab, as well as develop ownership of individual projects.

This post is funded by the CRIS Cancer Foundation for 3 years in the first instance.

Key Requirements

The successful candidate must have:

  • First or Upper Second Class honours degree in a relevant subject
  • Appropriate laboratory experience
  • Excellent organisational skills and lab databasing
  • Experience in preparing and running tissue samples for next-generation sequencing
Knowledgeor interest in childhood brain tumours an advantage.

Department/Directorate Information

The Glioma Team at the ICR is focussed on understanding thebiology of paediatric-type diffuse high grade glioma (PDHGG), such that we mayimprove the clinical outcome of children with these currently untreatabletumours. We have expertise in genomics and molecular cell biology of the humandisease, and use this knowledge to design and test new drug treatments in novelmouse models. We have leadership roles in national and internationalpreclinical and clinical trials groups, and have active research programs aimedat both forward and reverse translation in these diseases.
