About The RoleJoining this 24-month Higher Apprenticeship programme will give you the skills, qualifications and technical know-how that is needed to stop cyber-crime, decrypt data and untangle malware. The programme will allow you to develop your real-world skills in cyber security with the combination of classroom or virtual training and on-the-job experience. You’ll get the opportunity to be responsible for the successful planning and delivery of project work, with real responsibility from day one. Advancing our Technology capabilities are vital to National Grid’s ability to realise our vision to be at the heart of a clean, fair and affordable energy future.  IT & Digital seeks to attract and develop high potential recruits, to enable the clean energy transition for all, deliver for our customers efficiently and ensure we maintain resilient, secure and compliant technology solutions.  Our Security team protect our people, our premises and digital systems to maintain trust in National Grid’s services. You will be expected to deliver successful outcomes from a selection of the work areas and experience how we manage the cyber risk. For instance, you could: 
  • Analyse and assess potential security risks, and keep detailed records of investigations 
  • Develop plans to deal with security incidents by putting measures in place, and prepare technical reports to support our strategy 
  • Carry out tests on a system to expose weaknesses in security 
  • Develop and maintain security products and services to protect our environments  
  • Report on your findings to inform decisions about whether upgrades or remediation are required
You could make your mark in: 
  • Cyber Security Services: Product and Engineering – plan, design, implement and support effective cyber security solutions 
  • Operations – protect, detect and respond to cyber incidents, provide specialist digital forensic support 
  • Technology Risk – manage technology risks and assure controls across National Grid 
  • Strategic Risk & Governance – prevent and reduce the time to discover attacks via effective use of intelligence, define the risk view and develop the talent for success 
  • Performance – define strategy and report security performance

We will support you with training and on the job experience to gain an accredited L4 qualification. About YouAs one of our Higher Apprentices, we’ll help you develop your skills through a combination of practical work and academic study, all the while providing you with the passion, skills and knowledge you need to power all our futures.   You’ll Have a GCSE In English Language And Maths At Grade 5 Or Above (or Equivalent) With One Of The Following
  • 2 A levels / A2: Grades A* - C (1 must be in either Maths, Physics, Chemistry or Computing) 
  • BTEC National Certificate OR Diploma Level 3 in IT, Computing, IT Systems and Development, IT (Software Development), IT (Business), ICT Systems and Principles, Computing (Software Engineering Stream) at Grade Merit or Distinction 
  • HNC/HND in IT, Computing, IT Systems and Development, IT (Software Development), IT (Business), ICT Systems and Principles, Computing (Software Engineering Stream) at Grade Merit or Distinction 
  • Degree in Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Computing
