We will, however need your base ’home’ location to be one of our SSE offices or depots around the UK.Salary: Competitive + car / allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options availableAs the HV Operational Safety Manager, you’ll work within an exciting, challenging and growing area of the SSE Enterprise business, evaluating existing and new technologies and networks to create and embed safe systems of work across the Enterprise business sectors expanding portfolio of static and dynamic assets. Your passion for engineering safety and the environment will drive you to embed innovation into the solutions you create.The Role
  • The role will encompass a wide variety of technologies and networks including energy storage, solar generation, electric vehicle hubs, private and regulated networks from large power LV through to 132kV. You will continuously review how we operate and maintain our assets and the required training, competency and authorisation of the people that work with them. This will include the evaluation of contractors SSOW, leading or appointing technical expert teams and engaging with training providers.
  • You will work with Business Sector Stakeholders and the Enterprise Control Centre ensuring high safety standards are set and maintained when setting people to work through the appointment of Authorising Officers and the implementation of personnel and equipment audits.
  • You will influence senior stakeholders and system end users to successfully embed quality, assurance and compliance within processes and procedures throughout the Enterprise business, demonstrating excellent leadership and communication skills throughout.

  • Your understanding of Operational Safety within electrical networks combined with your engineering expertise and your passion for creating and rolling out effective safe systems of work will play a crucial role in ensuring our staff, clients and contractors return home safely every day.
What do I need?
  • Ideally you will be qualified to Higher National Certificate or degree level in a relevant STEM subject and have High Voltage operational experience within the energy industry as an SAP or AP.
  • You will have a broad understanding of all areas of the UK energy industry and energy markets. In particular, you will have strong experience in the development of new processes and procedures in accordance with UK standards and legislation such as the Model Distribution Safety Rules and National Electricity Registration Scheme.
  • You will be able to recognise opportunities for business change and communicate them persuasively through strong leadership qualities. As Technical Authority you will be accountable for key decisions when implementing new procedures or carrying out investigations.
  • You will be a highly motivated individual with effective written and spoken communication skills and the ability to identify best practice and drive change into established ways of working, making key operational decisions to support continuous improvement.
  • Experience and a successful history of managing and interfacing with consultants and contractors is desirable.
