Job Summary

This position is in the District of Columbia, Department of Public Works (DPW)., Fleet Management Administration. This position is responsible for performing maintenance and repairs to equipment assigned to various shop areas.

Duties And Responsibilities

The incumbent serves as a senior equipment mechanic of an assigned shop training junior mechanics and performing the following duties: Repairs, rebuilds, overhauls and maintains a variety of light, medium, heavy and specialty equipment. Performs repairs on brakes, exhaust, transmission, air conditioning, fuel, hydraulic and electrical and computerized systems. Performs special repairs such as welding and metal cutting. Performs other repair and maintenance services to District Fleet assets. Operates mobile repair truck to make repairs on work sites or roadway. Uses various diagnostic and testing tools to perform assigned duties.

Qualifications And Education

ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION

Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.;

Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic);

Use of Measuring Instruments;

Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc.;

Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment; and

Troubleshooting.

A high school diploma or GED equivalent with a minimum of four years of automotive equipment maintenance experience perferred.

Licenses and Certifications

MUST BE UPLOADED IN APPLICATION TO BE CONSIDERED

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Must possess (2) ASE Certifications

Incumbent must obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within one year from date of appointment.

Incumbent must be able obtain Hybrid and Altemate Fuel ASE’s within two year.

Working Conditions/Environment

The incumbent utilizes eye-hand coordination, strength, concentration and a high degree of dexterity in the performance of assigned tasks. While performing the duties of this position, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts both inside and outside. Regularly exposed to old, wet/or humid conditions, dirt, fumes toxic and/or caustic chemicals. Work involves prolonged periods of walking and standing on hard surfaces and requires reaching, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling and working in uncomfortable positions. Must be able to lift and/or carry heavy materials and parts weighing 50 pounds or more unassisted.
