A Bit About Us

We’re looking for a Health Visitor to join our award-winning service. Our Health Visitor team works to reduce health inequalities and empower families to make healthy choices. Our vision is to help residents to live healthy, independent lives as part of a thriving, connected community. Working within Somerset’s diverse population, we’re proud of making a difference to the Frome locality and of being a part of Public Health Nursing.

The success of our work depends on the wellbeing of our team. That’s why we offer flexible, family friendly working patterns , such as part time hours, job shares, and, where possible, home working. From Day 1, we will support you in role with our superb Safeguarding, Clinical, and Restorative supervision as well on the job training, including the opportunity to become a registered Practice Teacher. It’s no coincidence that, due to the friendly, supportive nature of our team, many of our colleagues joined at Band 5 and stayed with us to complete their SCPHN training in Health Visiting.

Here’s What You Can Expect To Be Doing

The Health Visitor service is a skill mix team that delivers core and targeted health input through the Healthy child programme for children aged 0-5 years and their families. Using your lived experience, you will be able to get involved in service development and share ideas and best practice . We have a few awards to our name and our fabulous team Achieved Sustainability in the Unicef Baby Friendly Initiative and Going for Gold 2022 .

Somerset is a mix of urban and rural locations, and our caseload is just as varied to match. Our service is expanding too – we now offer the opportunity to specialise as a Young Parent Health Visitor . Despite the physical distance between us, our locality teams maintain close communication and collaboration, as well as strong ties with our NHS partners , to help our community stay connected.

Some of our posts are entitled to relocation packages – if you are moving into Somerset please ask if this is something that could be available to you.

A Few Things About You

As a Health Visitor, you will need to be a motivated, innovative practitioner.

You will have good leadership skills and a knowledge base in safeguarding and child protection processes. In addition, you must have a strong Public Health focus and be committed to improving the health and well-being of our children and families in Somerset.

You must be an NMC registered Nurse or Midwife with a SCPHN qualification and an interest of addressing the health needs of children aged 0-5 years and their families.
