We have a fantastic opportunity for a Health & Safety Manager to join and play a key role in a thriving and forward-thinking business.
We are looking for an ambitious and responsible individual to lead on health and safety matters. You will actively promote quality, drive our culture of safety, and participate in sustainability projects and initiatives. You will be responsible for the H&S management system providing the link between the company and those onboard.
Coletta & Tyson is a 4th generation family run business with over 70 years’ experience in commercial horticulture based in East Yorkshire, UK. A market leader, product quality is at our core, but we strive to continually improve our offering and challenge the status quo within the industry.
We grow and supply a wide range of plants for the garden and home for large national retailers like B&Q and Morrisons as well as for our own garden centre.
The position will suit anyone who enjoys working across multiple sites, both inside and out, is methodical and passionate about the safety of the environment in which they work.
About the role
We are looking to appoint a dedicated Health & Safety Manager to develop and manage our H&S management system. You will monitor and enforce all associated policies, procedures and activities and ensure our facilities remain legal and insurance compliant.
You will devise and implement strategies to track and measure progress and deliver on Company objectives. You will continually strive towards exceeding internal standards that govern our compliance and quality standards.
Working closely with managers to engage with staff through communications and training to maintain safe systems of work and behavioural practices, you will raise awareness and understanding of our safety standards.
Our business is also subject to external auditing, required by the industry and/or customers which is pivotal to our continued operations and something we take very seriously. You will therefore work with external parties to maintain our accreditations, work to improve our standards where possible and focus on continued improvement.
Key responsibilities will include
- Maintain and update H&S management system
- Implementing and maintaining processes and systems to deliver site safety objectives
- Preparing health and safety records for upcoming jobs including risk assessments
- Conducting site audits and preparing/delivering monthly health and safety reports/meetings for management team
- Holding quarterly health and safety meetings and engaging with site operatives
- Reviewing site audit reports carried out by others and advising on any measures that need to be adopted to ensure safe working
- Developing a health and safety schedule to include regular distribution of health and safety briefs and toolbox talks
- Supporting and working with external auditors
- Maintain training and inspection records for all operatives and equipment
- Ensuring that all H&S related processes and systems are in place to meet legal compliance including PPE, MHE, DSE, COSHH and RIDDOR
- Support the site with any accidents/incidents and near misses, leading the investigation and production of statistical information in relation to H&S performance
- Completion of customer and/or supplier pre-qualification process and ongoing audits
About you
A conscientious and confident individual with a positive attitude who is able to use their initiative to drive a safe and secure work environment, maintain high standards and ensure compliance. You can analyse data to initiate change and not afraid to challenge opinions and processes.
Ideally the suitable candidate will have at least one (or a combination) of the following qualifications NEBOSH, IOSH, IEMA, internal auditing qualification, or relevant experience within a health and safety role.
If you’re from a horticulture/agriculture background, this is advantageous however, we will consider applicants from other fast-paced environments such as warehouse/logistics, distribution, or manufacturing.
