HEALTH AND SAFETY ADVISOR (CHEMICAL/BIOLOGICAL SAFETY AND DGSA)

£35,333 to £42,155 per annum

Are you looking for your next challenge? We are looking for an experienced and passionate Health and Safety Adviser to join our team at an exciting time of change and improvement to the University Safety Services.

Our Health and Safety Advisors provide a customer focused service to the University community. Working as part of a central team of health and safety professionals, technical and administrative support staff, this role holder will work closely and collaboratively as a Health and Safety Business Partner with allocated Faculties and Professional Services, providing proactive health and safety advice and support to achieve the highest standards of health and safety management and compliance.

We are seeking an individual who excels in great customer service and who has proven experience in providing competent health and safety advice and support, ideally with experience in control and safe use of chemicals and biological agents (including genetically modified organisms and dangerous pathogens) and the carriage of dangerous goods.

You will need excellent organisational skills, have good communication and IT skills, be self-motivated and able to work as part of a successful team.

In addition, you will have a relevant degree or equivalent level qualification or experience, as well as an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in an Occupational Safety and Health related discipline and you will hold membership of IOSH.

This newly created position offers an exciting opportunity to join our increasing team working as a Health and Safety Business Partner with an allocated Faculty and a small number of Professional Services teams.

Working in a hybrid way, although primarily on campus with some working at home, you will act as a key contact for Managers and staff from your allocated Business Partner areas, working collaboratively to provide advice and support to enable them to implement, maintain and improve health and safety management arrangements and standards.

The role involves a diverse range of activities including participating in the regular review of the University health and safety management system, policies, rules and procedures and the development and implementation of new management systems, provision of training, undertaking safety inspections and internal and external audits, accident and incident investigation and monitoring KPIs.

You will also have specialist responsibility for providing advice on the management of chemical and biological safety across the University including reviewing and monitoring the Biological Agents Management System and providing competent advice and support on the carriage of dangerous goods

You will work collaboratively with the rest of the Safety Services team, and with staff and students to foster and strengthen health and safety culture at the University promoting positive corresponding behaviours.

You will demonstrate motivation for the role, evidence for the skills outlined in the person specification and a commitment and passion for strengthening health and safety culture.

This full-time post is available from 1 December 2022 on an indefinite basis.
