Overview

This role offers the chance for the right individual to lead from the front and truly make a substantial difference and impact across a wide area.

The Head of Transport Operations has full responsibility for overseeing the delivery of operational performance for all ’public sector’ modes of transport across a large UK borough.

This is a key ’senior’ role where the Head of Transport will be instrumental in the day-to-day management of transport operations, ensuring the public transport system is managed consistently by offering real leadership, guidance, and direction to the Dept Leads.

The Role

Reporting into the Director of Transport, this role is accountable for the leadership and direction to Transport Operations Dept Heads.

Managing and maintaining overall business planning schedules for contractual renewals, service changes, stakeholder communication.

Overseeing the delivery of all public transport contracts and providing performance and wider management reporting to the Director of Transport.

Overseeing progress with capital programmes, setting up new and existing systems to ensure smooth running of the strategic plans. Acting as the project sponsor on capital and revenue project activities. Leading on all key projects working closely with key stakeholders, leading and delivering change management.

The Candidate

To be successful in this role, you will need a broad knowledge of the public transport sector. Strong understanding of Local and Combined Authority processes and governance.

Knowledge and understanding of service level agreements, proven experience of working within a transport role, ideally public transport, or local government.

Previous experience of contract management and leading on large change projects.

Strong proven stakeholder management skills, excellent influencing and negotiation skills. A proven leader, with the right attitude and capable of thinking outside the box, problem solver and confident leader.
