Head of Portfolio / PMO - Hybrid working - FTSE100 - Running portfolio supporting £100m+ globally - £90-95k + 35% bonus + bens
Purpose of the role
- Deliver high quality and timely reporting and control to exec / senior stakeholders
- Support Delivery and Software Engineering teams to maintain standards, drive transparency and deliver effectively and efficiently.
- Partner with the Performance Office to drive consistency and efficiencies, ensuring adherence.
- Relationship management to successfully manage key stakeholders, taking into account their levels of influence and key drivers.
Accountabilities
Working in partnership with group technology function and the business to:
- Drive continuous improvement in processes and controls, working within the Performance team to drive consistency and transparency across the group.
- Ensure there are governance structures that define clear roles, responsibilities and accountabilities for governance and delivery of change initiatives, ensuring alignment with organisational practice.
- Prepare and maintain schedules for activities and events for the portfolio, maintaining a holistic view of dependencies and resource requirements. Identification and resolution of challenges, escalating where needed.
- Forecast and track actual costs against budgets, ensuring appropriate project financial controls are maintained. Identification and resolution of challenges, escalating where needed.
- Build, produce, & run timely portfolio reporting, ensuring it is effective, insightful reporting and adds value.
- Facilitate and support RAID reviews, ensuring timely management and appropriate escalation.
- Provide the collective management of current and proposed projects/products.
This role may require travel and working from multiple sites/locations. Willing and able to travel to participate in meetings, workshops, and other related activities.
Desired Qualifications
Formal project management certification; ideally one or more of the following P3O, PMP, APM, Agile, SAFe or Scrum.

- Forming strong stakeholder relationships, with a proven ability of influencing and persuading internally and externally.
- Experience of working within a hybrid delivery environment with Programmes, Projects and Product teams.
- Effective stakeholder management, balancing and finding compromises between opposing views and opinions.
- Business partnering, working as a valued partner with senior stakeholders across a diverse operation, delivering a value-added service to business customers.
- Extracting requirements from business stakeholders and documenting them in a succinct manner.
- Ability to recognise priorities and guide others towards the accomplishment of strategic business goals and objectives
- Embracing and managing both business and IT change as necessary to help shape future direction.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Identifies and contributes to the continual improvement of analysis
- capability across the organisation.
- Fluent written and spoken English.
Experience
- Experience in a central PMO role, overseeing portfolio and product delivery, using both bespoke and out of the box tools and applications to manage resources, implementation planning, reporting and change.
- Demonstrable experience of end to end portfolio management. Including oversight of multiple, concurrent projects and deadlines, delivering in pressured environments.
- Proven track record of helping define, implement and coach project, programme and product processes and best practices.
- Demonstrable experience of effective project or programme financial management.
- Solid understanding of and demonstrated experience in using appropriate tools:
- Portfolio Management Office tools and techniques.
- Admin of PPM tool and techniques.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, Teams).
- Experience of operating across multiple countries and cultures is desirable, but not essential.
