Who are we?

Field & Flower was founded in 2011 by two friends after meeting at agricultural university, one a farmer and the other a food lover. We are a leading UK food subscription business specialising in grass fed, free-range meat and responsibly caught fish. We also offer a range of artisan cheese, scotch eggs, pies, charcuterie, stocks, salts, and seasonings – supporting livestock, local livelihoods and a living planet with every product we sell.

We’re looking for a dynamic individual that has a minimum of two years’ experience as Head of Operations, Director of Operations, Operations Manager, or a similar role in the food and FMCG industry. We own and control our order fulfilment operations in Shepton Mallet (Somerset), not far from Frome and have a team of 20 collating and dispatching orders direct to customer. We are a hardworking and progressive team that take great pride in the customer experience we offer through our meticulous and detailed order fulfilment.

What will you be doing?

KEY RESPONSBILITIES

Managing the customer experience, operational P&L and 20 strong team – the key responsibilities are:

  • Ownership of operations KPIs, operations dashboard and weekly reporting.
  • Devising the operational strategy and how we can continuously improve our order fulfilment costs, customer experience and team culture.
  • Oversee higher level management of supplier accounts, including negotiation, management of costs and independently meeting suppliers to review performance against their service level agreement.
  • Ensure communication with Head of Buying and Supply Chain Manager to ensure our suppliers comply with our terms, product quality and delivery schedules.
  • Collaborative working with the Customer Service Management to ensure customer experience and customer metrics are driving continuous improvement of operations.

OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT

  • Ownership and management of operational P&L and KPI reporting to the CFO and CEO monthly.
  • Produce and circulate monthly operations report, as well as quarterly investor and board reports with commentary on variances against target / plan.
  • Rota management to achieve weekly order fulfilment KPI.
  • People management and hiring new team members, particularly during peak seasonal periods.
  • Review and feedback on staff performance to our People Manager.
  • Stock control and wastage to be managed and reported against targets.
  • Responsible for packaging supply chain and ordering
  • Ownership of order fulfilment for third party clients at our operation.
  • Ensure close relationship with our couriers account managers to manage service logistics. (DPD)
  • Christmas – Managing a significant increase in orders during Christmas (X5 uplift) – planning for this peak period begins in August and requires onsite presence 15th -24thDecember.
  • Planning and management of co-packer (at peak) with associated logistics.
  • Responsibility for highlighting required amendments for changes to insurance cover.
  • Management of operational vehicles e.g., servicing, tax, insurance etc

FOOD STANDARDS, QUALITY AND SAFETY MANAGEMENT

  • Ownership of packaging and food labelling compliance
  • Ownership of Field & Flower HACCP and SALSA accreditation
  • Ownership of cold chain management and in transit food safety.
  • Ownership of product and food standards testing – (life, allergy, and temperature testing)
  • Ongoing research and implementation of eco-packaging developments
  • Responsible for operational health and safety management

Key requirements

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Head of Operations or similar role.
  • Experience of managing Operational P&L, KPIs, company accounts and budget performance.
  • To be a great communicator with all teams and management and be responsive to business needs
  • To have proven leadership and management skills, including being comfortable in hiring staff and managing the Senior Operational team
  • To have experience in driving operational change and efficiencies and making key business decisions.
  • To be a self-starter who can respond to changing priorities.
  • To have strong negotiation skills
  • Previous experience in business food safety, quality, and safety management is essential.

Full Time – Monday to Friday. Additional hours may be required in peak periods.
