Head of Legal and Democratic Services (Monitoring Officer)

Salary: £90,046

Location: Municipal Buildings, Greenock

Hours: 37 hours per week

Thank you for your interest in the post of Head of Legal and Democratic Services (Monitoring Officer) within Inverclyde Council. We are looking to appoint an experienced, committed and dynamic leader who can further shape and influence the development of legal and democratic services.

To assist the Council in the effective management of all legal services activities and the provision of a comprehensive range of legal services and to deputise for the Service Director in their absence.

To Support Effective Delivery Of Legal Services By
  • Providing legal and strategic advice to the Council and its committees and to Chief Executive and Senior Management of Inverclyde Council;
  • Executing legal work, including that of a complex or important nature;
  • Managing the day to day running of the legal and democratic services and internal audit;
  • To lead on administration of elections in the role of Depute Returning Officer.
Leadership skills of the highest order are a significant requirement for this post. Applicants need to be up to the challenges ahead and have the personal drive to make a real difference within the service and our community.

To be successful you will need to demonstrate a track record of success at a senior level in your field. Significant in-depth experience at operational management level will be essential to succeed in this role, as will an ability to contribute to the overall corporate management of the Council in pursuit of its key priorities.

LLB Degree (Bachelor of Laws) is required and a current unrestricted Practising Certificate from the Law Society of Scotland.

The post of Head of Legal and Democratic Services (Monitoring Officer) is politically restricted in terms of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.
