We are currently looking for a Head of Innovation and Platform Management to support our Rolling Stock business. You will support the mid to long term success of Rolling Stock by analyzing innovative technologies, market trends, and evaluating these with customers with an additional responsibility for the strategic roadmap of delivered vehicles covering the whole vehicle lifecycle.

As part of the Senior Management team, you will set standards and implement multi-functional managerial processes and a system of governance to deliver business objectives within the scope of the role. These processes will include development (with Business Systems and Business Excellence) of the requirements for innovation and life cycle roadmaps and departmental resource planning.

You’ll make an impact by

  • Collaborating with internal and external customers to develop Siemens’ Rolling Stock innovation strategy
  • Strategic fleet roadmaps delivery across the whole lifecycle of the Siemens fleet; harmonizing innovation opportunities to drive cost efficiency
  • Acting as the main interface between sales and Asset Management & Assurance (AMA) to provide timely information for new bids
  • Developing understanding of customers’ innovation needs; ensuring requirements are identified, tracked, and delivered
  • Tracking and analysing competitor approach to innovation and new technologies; reviewing market and technology trends (including potential M&A activities)
  • Planning major upgrades, overhauls, and fleet refresh in line with customer requirements
  • Developing innovation network across depots and working closely with NTAR (National Training Academy for Rail) to secure access to expertise, funding, and talent
  • Engaging with external organisations, such as Future Railway, Transport Catapult, RIA, RSSB, to secure funding where appropriate for innovation opportunities

Your success will be grounded by

  • Experience in building virtual teams to deliver output in short timescales within the rail industry
  • Degree level qualified chartered engineer (IMECHE or IET)
  • Understanding the need of product lifecycle management and innovation processes
  • Strong analytical skills to understand and disseminate customer requirements
  • Building effective and successful relationships with internal and external customers at all levels
  • German language would be an advantage
