HSE Recruitment have been exclusively retained to take on board a Head of Health and Safety. This role will be based from Redditch but will involve travel around the Midlands and London, and potentially further afield.

Our client are a medium sized company with a 40 million turnover and approximately 200 staff. The current Head of Safety has been in post for a number of years and is leaving on good terms The current safety culture is ok and the company are where they need to be in terms of compliance and audit, but now some work needs to be done from a culture perspective. This is definitely a role where you need to be willing to roll up your sleeves and lead from the front.

Health and Safety is the main priority for our client and underpins everything that they do, so this role will sit on the senior management team and will report directly into the MD. As a result you should not only be comfortable with guys on site, but also speaking with and presenting to board. There are 3 reports for the role, so good management skills are also a must. There is a range of skill amongst the advisors so it would also be beneficial to have someone capable of developing and mentoring talent.

After a company buy out last year there is a new and fresh approach to things, so the company is open to new ideas and initiatives, so this role is a great opportunity for someone to come in and make it their own. The company ethos is that company success is employee success, so rewards are gifted based on profit and performance.

The ideal candidate would come from a highways background, although we can rule in those from civils or more general construction backgrounds. Those with experience of local authority works or major construction firms would also work well. You must have good systems knowledge (the company is accredited to ISO 14001, 9001 and 45001) and ideally the right candidate will be NEBOSH Diploma qualified (or equivalent). As the company prides itself on development of staff we are open to someone currently working in a senior manager role and looking to step into their first Head of role, in addition to those already working in a head of capacity.

  • In return you will receive a salary of £60-70k per annum (dependent on experience).
