The Head of Financial Operations will be a member of the SMT and will report directly to the Associate Director of Financial Control. This role is responsible for the delivery of an efficient operational finance framework for Reed in Partnership and its subsidiaries, and for improving data analytics and reporting to support the finance department and offer transparency of information.

The purpose of this role is to ensure that the financial processes, procedures, and operations used to meet business requirements are robust, effective, scalable and favourably positioned for review.

The right person for this role will have a finance background and will understand the operational requirements for a multi-disciplinary shared finance function. They will be keen to join a people focussed organisation, will have experience of working with large businesses and be at a stage in their career where they feel comfortable to take ownership for financial processing within a control environment and are able to work to key KPIs and meet deadlines.

Through their management of a small team (3-5 direct reports), the Head of Financial Operations will drive performance and take responsibility for the delivery of the operational finance model.

What The Role Is About

Key contributions from the Head of Financial Operations will be:
  • implementation of measures to support operational targets
  • ensuring processes and procedures are documented and regularly reviewed to maintain quality
  • Advocate for efficiency by identifying opportunities for the removal of waste and improving processes and procedures accordingly.
  • forming partnerships with external parties, promoting service levels & exceeding expectations
  • Continual Improvement activity in response to change and preparing the finance department for growth and organisational change.
  • Understanding risk and governance in a finance function and maintenance of controls identified by the risk review structure.
  • Using data and reporting models to support efficiency and control

Key Accountabilities
  • Focus on operational delivery of financial support to both internal & external stakeholders within Reed in partnership & its subsidiaries.
  • Create high performing delivery model using KPIs, Targets, QA, Controls, Consistency.
  • Use of data analytics and business intelligence to support finance operations delivery – KPI monitoring for transactional finance teams, performance dashboards etc.
  • Improve reporting framework and data extracts for supporting accounting information
  • Document and review finance processes and procedures, including quality assurance and version control
  • Identify & Drive efficiency by identifying waste and introducing lean principles
  • Implement internal Quality Controls/Audit processes to support and maintain continuous improvement across the finance department
  • Governance and Risk champion for the finance function
  • Project management for small changes to improve finance operations, such as:
  • Expenses Application
  • Bank Validation software
  • Voucher Portal
  • Virtual card platform
  • Automation of financial support requests for participants
  • Internal systems development
  • Validate/Automate invoicing processes & procedures using MS power platform, or similar
  • CRM Development – ensuring finance interests are built into requirements and efficiencies achieved
  • Review existing accounts provision and support change for future ERP readiness
Essential Criteria

Skills an Experience:
  • Operations experience in a fast paced or shared services environment
  • Able to demonstrate financial understanding, with a background in processing and reconciliation.
  • Demonstrate high level of data literacy/Excel skills & willingness to learn MS Power Apps
  • Track record in implementing change and establishing continual improvement.
  • Ability to identify process improvements and make appropriate recommendations
  • At least 5-10 years management experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Power Apps, Tableau or equivalent
  • Highly accurate and detail orientated with a proven track record for data analysis
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications with strong Excel skills.
  • Proven experience of successfully managing and developing staff
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with proven resilience and the ability to work under pressure and achieve reporting deadlines.
  • A proactive and flexible, ‘can do’ attitude with a strong sense of honesty and integrity
  • Ability to be diligent and retain high levels of concentration and accuracy at all times
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team with good communication and reporting skills
Desirable Criteria
  • AAT/Finance Degree or other similar finance qualification
  • Lean Six Sigma or similar
  • Project Management/Implementation experience
  • Knowledge of Oracle systems, or other ERP configuration
  • Cross – departments support throughout the business, as required, ensuring that financial information is accurate and timely, including business partnering activities, as needed.
  • Build and develop a high performing highly engaged team creating a culture of excellence and lead on change and internal stakeholder buy-in.
