About The Role

Base Location:Any SSEN location including Aberdeen, Inverness, Perth, Glasgow, Reading, West London, Hampshire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, East Sussex

Salary: £64,700- £97,100 + car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

SSEN are looking to recruit a Head of Engineering and Consents. In this newly created role the successful candidate will lead the engineering design and associated consenting activities to convert the concept of an investment opportunity for the network into a developed and deliverable piece of work for large capital projects, ensuring compliance with all statutory safety, regulatory and licence requirements.

This covers a broad range of technical engineering disciplines including civil, electrical, overhead line, cabling (both onshore and subsea), main plant integration and the effective application of all wayleaves and land access-related policies when designing work to be delivered, to ensure access is available to deliver the project outcome at the best possible cost for the customer. The main responsibilities include;
  • Manage and develop the teams responsible for the design, consenting and co-ordination of all large investment programmes to the network to achieve the required outputs of the work and to ensure compliance with external statutory, safety, regulatory and licence requirements, as well as internal asset policy and budgetary requirements
  • Design Authority responsibility for Distribution, to ensure that all network designs meet the required ENA, regulatory and internal policy standards regarding electrical, civil and any other engineering standards, as well as consideration that all works designed are done so with the consideration of SHE for its execution
  • Responsible to develop, monitor and control revenue/ capital budgets for business area, ensuring that expenditure is managed in line with agreed budget and regulatory allowances
  • Accountable for the delivery of end-to-end customer service and proactively develop and embed processes and behaviours designed to understand and meet current and future needs of all customers and stakeholders, both internal and external
What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
  • Experience of managing design in an electrical infrastructure environment with a knowledge of electrical network design standards
  • Knowledge of land access, consenting and planning policies and processes
  • Knowledge and understanding of planning and managing multi-million-pound budgets
  • People management skills and significant experience of leading and motivating large teams of people through multiple organisational levels in a significantly sized business unit
  • Awareness of key stakeholders and customers and experience of successfully operating in a customer-driven environment to understand and meet customer/ stakeholder needs
