Tranmere Rovers Football Club - Head of Education

Main duties:

1. Strategic Development

  • Oversee the strategic development of TRFC Education programme.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of TRFC’s strategic vision as an active member of the Senior Leadership Team, taking lead responsibility for delegated key projects or initiatives.
  • Represent the department at Board level, building effective relationships with link key stakeholders.
  • To prepare and present reports to senior management team, Board of Trustees, funders and stakeholders including contribution to the Club’s annual report.

2. Education & Learning Programme

  • Design the Education offer to ensure sustained growth in student numbers, profitability and reputation.
  • Lead on delivering the growth of the educational provision with responsibility for achieving key performance indicators.
  • Develop innovative domestic and international education products that will improve the financial profitability of the provision.
  • Oversee the planning and scheduling of all Education & Learning programmes.

3. Partnerships and Stakeholder Engagement

- Identify and develop new partnerships with funding bodies, educational institutions and local and national support organisations.

- Build exemplary client relations, ensuring high levels of client retention are maintained.

4. Income Generation

- Actively contribute to TRFC income generating plans and financial growth, in line with business plan targets.

- Secure external funds from the ESFA, Wirral Borough Council, Trusts and Foundations to support the growth ambitions of the education provision.

5. Financial Planning and Management

  • Prepare annual budgets in association with the Chairman and Finance Manager.
  • Ensure regular and accurate monthly/quarterly financial monitoring and reporting including year-end forecasting of income and expenditure.

- Ensure the regular and timely invoicing of education partners.

6. Marketing, Communications and External Relationships

- Liaise with the Marketing & Communications team to oversee the promotion of Education & Learning activity through press, social media and marketing initiatives.

  • Advocate for the work of TRFC at a regional and national level.
  • Support the effective flow of communication throughout TRFC.
  • Regularly update the Tranmere Rovers Academy website to ensure the information is current, relevant and informative.

7. Human Resources and Department Management

  • Manage the department, ensuring company policies are followed and legal requirements are met.
  • Ensure appropriate policies and procedures are in place for the education provision and that these are reviewed annually.
  • Line manage the department staff providing support, guidance and performance management to enable them to develop in their role.
  • Oversee the application process when recruiting new staff.
  • Ensure that the contracting of causal staff and volunteers is managed efficiently.

Further specific role responsibilities for the different educational offerings are:

Tranmere Rovers Academy (16-18)

  • Negotiate funding contracts to optimize profitability, and ensure delivery adheres to contractual requirements.
  • Raise standards and drive improvements in the quality and delivery of the education and football programme.
  • Lead person for external quality assurance inspections including Funding Partners, Ofsted and Awarding Bodies.
  • Consider new educational and vocational offerings that may be offered.
  • Support the Curriculum Manager and Head of Football in the day-to-day operations of the programme.
  • Planning of timetable and use of the internal assets effectively, source external space when and where required. (final sign off to sit with HoE).

Higher Education

  • Work in partnership with the University of South Wales to deliver a Sports Coaching degree at TRFC.
  • Negotiate funding contracts to optimize profitability, and ensure delivery adheres to contractual requirements.
  • Support the HE Mentor in devising a marketing and recruitment strategy.

Alternative Education

  • Securing contracts with local schools and producing required monitoring and reporting against the contract.
  • Quality assurance and compliance with Health and Safety regulations.
  • Management of qualifications delivered, including achieving required accreditations from awarding bodies.
  • Attend and positively contribute to Wirral Council Guild for Alternative provision.
  • Planning of timetable and delivery (final sign off to sit with Head of Education)

Salary & Hours:39 hours PW

£40,000 - £45,000 PA (dependent on experience)

Job role:To manage and grow the education provision across the three key educational offerings within Tranmere Rovers Football Club, being Alternative Education (14–16), Tranmere Rovers Academy (16-18) and Higher Education (18+).
