Head of Data and Management Information – UK

Overview

Marsh is a leading global commercial insurance broker. The UK represent the second largest region for Marsh based on a strong multi-segment retail business and a large wholesale franchise providing global clients with access to the London insurance market across several product lines.

The organization has embarked on a multi-year strategy and investment programme on Data and Digital. The strategic direction is to increase the availability of data to transform how we manage the business internally and interactions with insurers and clients.

We are seeking and experienced data and analytics leader to join as Head of Data and Management Information for the UK region based in London or Norwich


What can you expect?


You will own and coordinate the data strategy for Marsh UK, chairing the UK Data Committee and linking with the Global Data Services function.

You will have the opportunity to shape the next phase of the UK and global data strategy, involving collection of additional data, improved management and availability of data assets and insight delivery to internal users, clients and insurers.

You will lead a team of Data & MI colleagues, focused on data management, MI development and MI production.

You will be part of the Placement and Data & MI function. Data and analytics is a key enabler for the delivery and innovation of Marsh placement strategy. You will also link very closely with other core functions such as Finance, Operations for delivery of core MI.

We will rely on you to:


  • Own and coordinate Marsh UK Data & MI Strategy, in alignment with global data strategy.
  • Chair the UK Data Committee as a forum to discuss and agree key data related priorities across UK & Ireland businesses and functions.
  • Ensure data requirements and data management considerations are adequately included for key change projects undertaken by the business (e.g development of new digital trading platform, expansion of placement data collection )
  • Ensure coordination with Global Data Services group. Represent the UK in the forum of regional Data Leaders.
  • Ensure appropriate Data Governance policies and procedures are in place.
  • Establish approaches to monitor Data Quality and drive corrective actions.
  • Work Closely with Placement COO and Placement Leader to ensure UK Data & MI strategy supports UK Placement strategy, including development and maintenance of new products, revenue a profitability management, pricing analysis, management of insurer relationships.
  • Work with other Functional leaders including Operations, Finance, HR, Digital and Risk & Compliance to align UK Data & MI activities according to current and ongoing business priorities
  • Collaborate as necessary with IT function in relation in relation to Data Technology, Architecture, Infrastructure – including Enterprise Data Warehouse and Data Masters.
  • Oversee activities driven by the core UK Data & MI team, located in Norwich
    • UK Data Management layer, including link with global databases.
    • MI development – based on close understanding of business requirements, deliver MI to be shared with internal stakeholders and insurers.
    • MI production – ensure smooth running of regular reporting processes.
    • Provision of ad hoc data and analysis to stakeholders within Marsh UK.
  • Lead, develop and maintain a high performing UK Data & MI team. Organize activities to maximize efficiency and knowledge sharing.
  • Drive collaboration with other UK data and analytics colleagues, which are part of selected business units or Functions.
  • Ensure adoption of best practices for data management and data visualization.
  • Provide content leadership. Develop and maintain high level of understanding of overall data landscape, different data sources, core systems and processes. Identify links between different types of data and limitations of each data set. Provide a view on priority areas for improvement.

What you need to have:


  • Significant experience in a senior Data Management or Data Analytics position within a fast paced and complex business setting
  • Experience in leading Data, MI or Analytics teams
  • Experience at operating at CxO level stakeholders in relation to Data , MI and Analytics strategy
  • A technical background in a hands of data-role
  • A broad data background covering engineering, transformation, Master Data Management, visualization and overall strategy
  • A strong delivery focused background and mindset
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Creative problem-solving skills, self-organized, and process-driven with a knack for balancing the big picture with the details that matter.
  • Great team player.
  • Cross-functional leader, bringing different part of the organization together to drive data enabled benefits.
