This is an exciting opportunity to join our Trust and use data, emerging technologies and innovation to support patient care. The role of Head of Data is a critical position within the Information and Performance department and the Trust as a whole.

With our aim to be a data driven organisation, this role oversees data provision for performance, analysis, research and operational and statutory reporting. To ensure the Trust excels at this, the role is entrusted with designing and optimising data warehousing that integrates a wide range of diverse and complex data sources. In line with our core value for innovation, this role will lead technical development across our data resource, ensuring we release the benefits of this asset.

In doing so, this role offers the opportunity for information management leadership to contribute to efficient and effective service delivery.

The Head of Data role will:
  • Lead on the management, development and ongoing support of the Trust data warehouse and wider information management arrangements. The role will act as subject matter expert on business intelligence within the Trust and offer support, guidance, and advice on the evolving use of information as outlined in the CPFT ICT Strategy.
  • Provide leadership and development to the wider business intelligence function, through provision of technical authority, digital change initiatives and information management training support to the department, clinical services, and others within the Trust.
  • Deliver the technical information management environment to allow the Trust and its partners to utilise assured and robust information to manage service change, create efficiencies and continue improvements in patient care.
  • Design and implement informatics solutions to ensure the Trust reports and complies with national, commissioning and local reporting requirements, including the support for a comprehensive performance management framework.

  • Day to day management of existing CPFT data warehouse, including the extract, transformation and load cycles of clinical and business data from a range of sources, whilst absorbing additional data sources in line with organisational requirements.
  • Maintain robust security models within the data warehouse and reporting outputs to enhance controlled and appropriate access to data, in line with Information Governance and data protection.
  • Providing assurance on the integrity of the CPFT data warehouse, including management and maintenance of reference data and supporting required audit and security testing as required.
  • Change control management of enhancements to the CPFT data warehouse, including version control schemes, full testing and rollback, as required through ongoing enhancements to underlying technical architecture.
  • Development of the CPFT data warehouse, in line with the ICT Strategy, to enhance the asset with additional data sources as they are identified, and development of visualisations and enhanced analytical capabilities as opportunities from data present.
  • Develop, support and quality assure applications for data integration, which may include creating custom applications, JAVA, T-SQL processes or SSIS packages.
  • Continuous monitoring of CPFT data warehouse to establish efficiencies in data processing and reporting, ensuring that performance and analytical business requirements are effectively supported with assured data.
  • Work closely with other members of the Information and Performance team and clinical leaders within the Trust to establish development opportunities, whilst offering the technical leadership to advise, challenge and negotiate on solutions.
  • Contribute to the development of the CPFT data warehouse with emerging technologies, such as cloud based solutions, integration, artificial intelligence and visualisation.
  • Produce KPI information routinely to demonstrate performance of the clinical systems function, and supporting the performance framework required to address any performance issues in a timely and effective manner.
  • Use expert knowledge to deliver NHS standards, operational performance and integrated reporting, ensuring the Trust complies with regulatory standards and delivers performance reports to contribute to organisational success.
  • Manage the CPFT data warehouse and its access in accordance with security and confidentiality policies and procedures related to Information Governance, data protection, and controls assurance standards.
  • Work closely with the Information Governance manager to ensure compliance with relevant components of the Data Security and Protection Toolkit and any future variants of this requirement.
  • Ensure CPFT data warehouse comply and are consistent with NHS Data Dictionary data sets and any Information Standards Board ISN notifications, including effective communication with system suppliers and clinical services.
