They are seeking a delivery focused Head of Construction, on a full-time and permanent basis, to run safe and effective construction sites ensuring delivery to exacting specifications and a high level of customer satisfaction.

Commutable from: Telford, Shrewsbury, Wolverhampton, Stafford, Birmingham, Worcester

Salary: £ Negotiable + Annual Bonus + 5% ER Pension Contribution + 35 Days Holiday + Private Health Care + Life Insurance (x3 Salary) + £ 5,700 p.a. Car Allowance

Future Equity involvement (share options) within a 12-month period is a highly attractive element of this role which would not normally be available

The Person

This role is ideal for someone with experience in physically delivering construction projects into either a healthcare, science, data, or other high-end specification environment. The successful candidate will know exactly how a construction site should run, have exacting standards on how works are delivered and meticulous in ensure everything exceeds their criteria for success.

This person should be a first-class communicator with the ability to inspire delivery and reassure client teams. A desire to succeed, discipline and a culture of pride in correct execution are critical in making this role their own.

The Successful Hire Will Also
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of what is and isn‘t acceptable in the perfect delivery of a construction project
  • Have the ability to demand those standards are met, whilst inspiring the team around/below them to want to meet those standards without pushback
  • Have the ability to act decisively when they sense those standards aren‘t being met, and think quickly and logically on how to recover a situation
  • Be able to communicate with clients to ensure that they are always comfortable and happy with the approach being taken
The Role

You will have responsibility for the physical delivery of construction activities across the company‘s sites. Construction Managers responsible for small numbers of sites each will report into you. Your role is to ensure that your standards are upheld by them for the duration of the project (including landing and aftercare). You will work collaboratively with the Head of Construction (Strategy) to ensure best possible outcomes for the customer and Darwin Group.

Key Responsibilities Include
  • Regularly attending sites to:
  • review progress vs reported progress
  • ensure critical standards in safety are being met
  • ensure critical standards in housekeeping are being met
  • ensure critical standards in quality of workmanship are being met
  • ensure critical standards in planning and organisation are being met
  • Ensuring direct and indirect reports are aware of your standards, and provide training and/or guidance as required
  • Ensure any potential issues are flagged early by your team, and are then worked through methodically to prevent them becoming a bigger future problem
  • Ensuring the client is kept informed with a communication style suits the nuance of the situation and your understanding of the client personality
  • Supporting, encouraging, and generally leading the team through your actions and drive for perfection
  • You will be passionate about excellence in construction and take a high level of professional pride and enjoyment in the delivery of successful projects through first class site operations and activity.
