We are seeking a talented individual to act as Head of Community Engagement to develop and lead initiatives which demonstrate the University’s commitment and contribution to the social, environmental, economic and cultural life of the community of which we are an integral part.

An example project is ’Our Shared Future’, a joint initiative with Bath & North East Somerset Council which aims ‘to grow our collective problem-solving capacity by bringing together expertise from across the city’ working to ensure that the time and motivation of staff and students is used as effectively as possible to support initiatives which address needs identified within the locality.

You will have an adaptive and flexible style of leadership; will be initiating and driving in some areas, influencing, supporting and facilitating in others dependent on what is most likely to lead to tangible outcomes. Your strong networking skills and evident commitment to partnership working will be complemented by an agile and responsive approach to the development and delivery of initiatives, and the insight as well as the creativity to secure and deploy resources - including staff and student time - effectively.

You’ll need excellent communications skills - both written and verbal. Your fluency with a range of communications media and tools will bring local engagement activities to the attention of external and internal stakeholders.

You will have a personal commitment to the positive impact a University can make to its local community and a good understanding of how to ensure the University’s capabilities and facilities can be deployed to meet local need in a way which aligns with our vision and mission.

Working alongside the University’s Public Engagement Unit and within the Department of Marketing your role will be key to the implementation of the University Strategy. You’ll be expected to work with initiative and autonomy on a day to day basis.

For an informal discussion about the role please contact Tim Kaner, Chief Marketing Officer (tak33@bath.ac.uk), however, please ensure that your application is submitted via the University website.

This position is a fixed term maternity cover starting February 2022 with an expected duration of 12 months and you will therefore both benefit from already established networks, projects and momentum and have the opportunity to take forward your own initiatives. The role is part time working 21.9 hours per week (0.6 FTE).

As a Marketing department we help to deliver the University strategy by both understanding the needs of the audiences we serve and demonstrating how the University’s expertise and capabilities can meet those needs. By developing and delivering initiatives and activities with which our audiences will engage we can help to build an enduring connection with the University community.
