The Games Vertical

At Future we own and operate four of the biggest digital brands in the gaming industry: GamesRadar, PC Gamer, The PC Gaming Show & The Future Games Show. These brands are established industry staples that need to be developed further in the market, to facilitate the next stage of growth. The two Digital Broadcast Events (PC Gaming Show & Future Games Show) have delivered exceptional growth in the last 3 years, and we are looking to move to the next level through new ideas and an expansion of offering. We also own the UK’s market leading Games Print portfolio with 4 core magazines (Edge, PC Gamer, Play, Retro Gamer)

What do we need?

A sales leader to run our UK team, and continue the sustained growth of the Games vertical and has extensive experience in the media industry and who can be a fast paced leader and thrive in an ever changing environment.


Experience that will put you ahead of the curve…

  • Having excellent relationships within the UK gaming industry, to leverage and facilitate conversations for the sales team
  • Experience having worked at another gaming company, publisher or running a gaming client at an agency
  • Experience leading a sales team (preferably within the gaming industry)
  • Being able to demonstrate a passion for, and strong understanding of the gaming industry, particularly the roles different agencies and contacts play in buying decisions
  • A proven track record for growing advertising revenues through creative thinking and an entrepreneurial approach
  • Experience of selling and delivering £100k+ partnership deals within the UK gaming market
  • A strong understanding of the digital landscape and how it is developing in the gaming industry
  • Experience in go to market strategy as you build products and take them to market to be monetised

Role Purpose

  • Create, own, and deliver on the vision, strategy and execution to drive advertising revenues by an incremental at minimum 10%+ growth YoY (from digital, events, print, CS etc), monetising our Gaming vertical.
  • Responsibility for all digital, print, CS, video and events and awards revenues, for all brands and audience sales opportunities within the games vertical.
  • Operate a multi million £ revenue vertical that is in annual growth.
  • Lead, manage and inspire the colleagues on the UK Games sales team.
  • Set short, medium and long term ambitious goals for the vertical and develop a plan to achieve them. Implement these, track them and deliver in line with company expectations.

Key Accountabilities

  • Although we do not envisage you will have your own clients to account manage (you will be a manager not a player/manager) it is important you have a significant profile in the Gaming industry both in advertising agencies and in clients at a senior level, to be able to influence larger scale deals and commercial partnerships.
  • You will have a high profile internally. You will engage with MDs and other internal stakeholders to maximise new commercial opportunities and develop new products to drive additional revenue (including internal project work as required).
  • Actively coach the team to increase performance, set goals, objectives and KPIs and manage underperformance and disciplinary issues within the team.
  • Motivate, inspire and drive the sales team to deliver maximum revenues in a professional, united and harmonious way linking all we do to Future’s VALUES.
  • Set the budgeted annual revenue for vertical/s and produce accurate annual, quarterly, monthly and weekly revenue forecasts that enable the CRO to manage the overall commercial organisation.
  • Detailed pipeline management to ensure that targets are achieved, flag potential risks and opportunities and work with team and other teams to achieve all budgets.
