Head of Agriculture Commercial

£90,000 - £120,000 per annum

Job Purpose
Reporting to the Agriculture Director, the role holder will lead the development and delivery of the Agriculture Commercial strategy and will enable the Commercial Ag team in transforming the relationship with our grower base.

Your core accountabilities

  • Lead the Agriculture Commercial team in understanding, developing and transforming grower relationships.
  • Lead the implementation plan that links grower segmentation, contract propositions and team capability development, building trust and delivering for growers and BS.
  • Development of Account Management tools to enhance the core offer and great grower flexibility.
  • Delivery of the contracted area through the commercial team (note this is the largest single directly bought crop in the UK).
  • Ownership and fostering of effective relationships with key growers, particularly the senior members of the NFU team and Senior Grower Council.
  • Contribute to the formation of policy and strategy as a member of senior management team within both the Agriculture department and the wider business.
  • Effectively manage the key third parties that influence national beet supply in a planned, prioritised and coordinated approach.
  • Creation of the strategy for the beet procurement activity of the business to deliver company targets.
  • Annual negotiation of the £200m beet contract with NFU and submission of beet budget /target proposals.
  • Establishment of an effective department governance structure to deliver the beet purchasing strategy and budgetary requirements.
  • Establishment of sustainable yet flexible staff structures to ensure effective succession planning, recruitment and training / development. This includes establishment of team skills profiles and associated training programmes e.g.
  • Own and set the Account Managers incentive package.

Critical Skills, Knowledge and Competencies

  • Leadership experience.
  • Strategic thinking.
  • Commercially aware and focused on delivery of business objectives.
  • Knowledge of wider agricultural industry, basic farm economics, strong relationship skills and ability to adapt style.
  • Adherence to company policies and legal obligations (IPA).
  • Current driving licence – due to travel within role.
