Head Chef – Brymore Academy (Term Time Only)

We are looking for the perfect candidate to join our catering team at one of our prestigious state boarding schools, Brymore Academy, Bridgwater.

The main School House of Brymore has had a long, varied and interesting history spanning over 800 years. Purchased in 1951 by Somerset County Council, Brymore have been educating around 138 boarders and 280 boarders for over 70 years. Based on a working farm, we are looking for a Head Chef whom champions homegrown and locally sourced produce.

As a member of our team you will be delivering freshly produced meals for the pupils and school staff. There will also be a requirement for delivering various hospitality requests for meetings, events and sports teas. Within this role, your key focus will be preparing and delivering the highest quality of food for our pupils, whether that be breakfast, lunch or supper service.

Details of the Position
  • 40 hours per week
  • 42 weeks working per year!
  • Some weekends included
  • £30K per annum / £17.85 per hour

  • Deputising in the Chef Manager’s absence

  • Friendly and polite customer service
  • Experience of working as chef using fresh ingredients, with excellent craft skills
  • Experience of contract catering within a school or similar environment desirable
  • Experience delivering high end hospitality
  • Ability to cost recipes and work to a budgeted food cost
  • Understanding of current food trends and a flair for food presentation
  • Knowledge of health and safety and food safety practices
  • Self-motivated and able to work off your own initiative Ability to motivate others and work as part of a team
  • Own transport is needed due to the location of the school.
