Hardware Engineer – Test Rigs
Crawley – Hybrid

The hub of our Avionics systems is based at our UK HQ in Crawley, and we are expanding our Connectivity Centre for Avionics meaning we are actively recruiting a Hardware Engineer to join us on a permanent basis.

As the Hardware Engineer for Test Rigs, you will support multi-disciplinary engineering teams focused on the development and delivery of products and programmes to a wide variety of customers in the aerospace sector; covering both the Civil and Military domains. This could include:

  • The development of our next generation SATCOM Terminal for the civil airline market
  • The development of our next generation Tactical Mission Management System or Secure Information System for military helicopter platforms
  • Supporting one of the several studies we are undertaking to shape the future of aircraft connectivity

The Role

The success person will take an active hands-on responsibilities for delivery of one or engineering development projects at different stages of the lifecycle. You will also contribute to the delivery of the Connectivity Competence Centre’s Engineering Performance Plan, and work with engineers across International business lines

Responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and executing Test and Qualification plans for engineering development
  • Designing Hardware Test Equipment in consistency with that of upper level plans and requirements.
  • Coordinating Hardware Integration and Verification activities, establishing priorities and integration logical diagrams, conducting tests, supporting factory and site acceptance as well as commissioning, analysing results and transmitting them to development teams.
  • The tasking and driving of the engineering team through a test campaign
  • The reporting of the progress of engineering activities to stakeholders (Inc. establishing appropriate metrics with forecasts)
  • Defining/ensuring adherence to the Engineering Lifecycle and the governance of engineering activities, including selection and application of appropriate toolsets
  • Attending customer sites if required to support Installation activities through Hardware tests.

Experience, skill and qualifications required

Bachelors Degree (BEng, BSc) in a Numerate, Scientific or Engineering subject or Higher Education/equivalent training and experience

  • Experience working in a Safety Critical environment, ideally Aerospace but alternative industry experience welcomed
  • Experience in Hardware Engineering and Hardware Engineering Processes and Practices, including knowledge of Hardware Product Lifecycles (in particular TRR and TQR)
  • Experience designing Hardware Test Equipment in consistency with that of upper level plans and requirements.
  • Experience of tailoring Hardware Integration & Verification environment (process, practices and tools)
  • Experience coordinating Hardware Integration, Verification and Qualification activities, establishing priorities and integration logical diagrams, conducting tests, supporting factory and site acceptance as well as commissioning,

Security Clearance statement

The Work Environment
