The Crown Estate is a unique business and we are seeking a Group Head of Legal and Company Secretary to lead the delivery of legal advice and operational excellence across the whole of our diverse portfolio of activities. The successful candidate will play a key role in enabling the UK’s offshore wind industry and facilitating the development of other established and emerging offshore activities. You will help us to become an urban renewal leader through our London portfolio, support economic development by reshaping our Regional portfolio and access the potential of our Windsor and Rural holdings for environmental and ecological best practice.

You will be responsible for leading the first class in-house legal team (supported by a panel of law firms) in delivering best in class legal services. More than that, you will play an important part in helping The Crown Estate, as active owners and managers of land and seabed, around England, Wales and Northern Ireland, to leverage our scale and convening power to create lasting and shared prosperity for the nation. In that, you will have direct responsibility to the Chair, the Board and the Chief Executive Officer, reporting as part of our new governance structure to the Executive Director of Operations.

You will be integral to the operation and success of our business, empowered to deliver change. The Legal & Secretariat function delivers long term value to the business, using its expertise to bring enhanced performance and delivering and embedding a strategy that works seamlessly within our business, enabling The Crown Estate’s progressive approach to delivering its statutory mandate. This is not a role for a traditionalist. We are looking for someone who wishes to be part of an ambitious organisation seeking to make a difference at the forefront of the green economy. Somebody who has the ability to make a positive impact on our organisation and our business.

You will be a recognised leader in your field or a rising star waiting for the right opportunity, with a track record of working at senior legal advisory levels, preferably with experience in Board level interaction, and be at ease evolving The Crown Estate’s corporate level governance.

You will have the ability to provide strategic advice to businesses, and a proven track record of managing external partnerships. An innovative and pragmatic thinker and an advocate for change with a can-do attitude, you will support the team and the wider organisation in delivering a compliant, effective and efficient operating model. Collaboration and diversity must be as important to you as they are to us.

You will be at ease working in an organisation whose values define how we set the right culture and guide our actions and behaviours internally and which help us to engage our customers and stakeholders in how we do business and what they can expect from us, so that by living our values we build trust and integrity.

If you are excited by this opportunity and interested to learn more, please review the job description and apply with your CV and a cover letter.
