Group Financial Controller

Based - Runcorn,Cheshire

Job Purpose

The key responsibility for this role is to ensure that the company’s accounting systems are appropriately controlled and reviewed enabling the accurate and timely production of month and year end accounts .

The Group Financial Controller will proactively manage the company’s working capital and currency requirements in addition to managing the external relationships with Banks, Inland Revenue and Auditors.

Main Accountabilities

  • A key leadership role, supporting the UK&I Finance Director and senior management team with wide ranging operational development initiatives.
  • Leading a team including Credit Control and Financial Accounting (Tax, Treasury & Reporting)
  • Active management and development of the company’s transactional based accounting function.
  • Ownership, reporting and management of the company’s’ balance sheet to ensure accuracy under UK, US and International GAAP and in accordance with all company and Group deadlines.
  • Oversee the group’s VAT and Intrastat reporting.
  • Oversee Companies House filings in accordance with requirements
  • Management of the group’s banking relationships together with development and improvement of the group’s working capital.
  • Control of the company’s taxation liabilities and ensuring compliance with all current legislation.
  • Control and development of relevant company expenditure and financial control policies including taxation and VAT.
  • Maintain and implement company’s pension strategy.
  • Assisting the Finance Director with effective tax planning for the UK group.
  • Control and development of the company’s cash flow and associated reporting.
  • Control of the quarterly and year end reporting requirements to ensure accuracy whilst at all times protecting the company’s financial exposure.
  • Management of the company’s foreign currency requirements (including hedge contracts) and associated group reporting.
  • Management of company’s audit relationship.
  • Continued development of the company’s accounting function, processes and procedures.
  • Control, development and application of the company’s expenditure policies.
  • Active management, development and motivation of the Financial Accounting team including 4 direct and 8 indirect reports.

Experience and Qualifications

  • A qualified accountant preferably from an ACA or ACCA background.
  • Knowledge of USGAAP and IFRS.
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft office suite of software applications and familiarisation with mainframe accounting systems in particular SAP R/3.
  • Good commercial skills and awareness.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and develop proactive solutions to business problems.
  • Well developed people management skills.
