Temporary Grants Officer - Finance

Pay Rate: £14.81 per hour PAYE

Role Length: This opening assignment is for 4 months

The Grants Officer, reporting to the Team Leader is responsible for the effective and efficient analysis and recommendations for Covid-19 Business Grant applications, through to conclusion.

The Grant Officer will use the Dynamics system, to update notes, record progress of the application, and detail a determination of the outcome.

The Grant Officer will from time to time work in conjunction with the Business Rates Team and carry out business checks, liaise with customers, and escalate complex cases to the Team Leader

The Grant Officer will assist in the detection of fraudulent applications in respect of the Covid-19 Business Grants.

Principal Accountabilities And Responsibilities

Assess and process applications for business grants and request further evidence in order to determine entitlement

Analyse information provided alongside the application form including supporting documents and assess requirements for further evidence

Interpret and assimilate information, analyse conflicting sources of information and make sound reasoned decisions based upon them

Carry out due diligence when awarding grants, checking to verify information with Companies house, other organisations and information held on the Business Rates system and other checks that may be required for audit

Identify creative solutions to problems and use own judgement to determine an appropriate course of action

Make detailed and accurate notes on the Dynamics database regarding each assessment

To advise applicants on the progress of the grant application and offering basic advice on relevant procedures

Liaise with investigation team or Internal Audit, if there is a suspicion of fraudulent activity

To ensure that all responsibilities undertaken with regards to the processing of grant applications are carried out within efficient timescales

To maintain an up to date knowledge of any changes to the Business Grant policies and procedures

Highlighting complex cases and identified fraudulent cases to the Team Leader

Maintaining professional communications when liaising with external partners and responding to customers via email and telephone

Dealing with sensitive information in a highly confidential manner at all times

Qualifications

Knowledge

Knowledge and experience of providing customer focussed advice, information, enquiry, transactions and complaints handling service

Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office including Excel and Word packages and the ability to effectively use a range of IT systems, databases and applications

Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form with a wide audience including staff, members of the public and outside organisation

Experience

Experience of case management, to include excellent decision making skills and an ability to analyse problems to find solutions and the ability to understand and assimilate information, analyse conflicting sources of information and make sound reasoned decisions

Good numeracy skills, ideally with a background in financial services or local government

Experience of working in an information sensitive environment

A high level of expertise in the operation of standard office information and communication technology applications, including email, spreadsheet and presentation software

Ability to understand the needs of a diverse range of Businesses, and a commitment to securing the best possible outcomes for them
