Our Data Governance Manager is looking to recruit an ambitious and motivated Google Cloud Platform Database Administrator. As our Database Administrator you’ll enjoy a high profile role and be a key member of a high performing and dedicated team that underpins and supports business-wide change by providing data to provide actionable insight and help curate, maintain and support the data requirements of the business.
DPD has embraced cloud computing, implementing solutions hosted in the Google Cloud Platform. The databases used are Cloud Spanner, Firestore, Cloud SQL and BigQuery. Google Data Studio is used extensively to create reports and dashboards that can be scheduled and shared with business users. Some of our databases have Billions of rows of data and others receive thousands of updates per second.
Key Responsibilities include:
Database Maintenance and Monitoring
Creation of Databases
Formulate guidelines and metrics to ensure optimal database performance by developers
Monitoring database performance
Monitoring transaction conflicts
Monitoring database costs
Work with IT devops to orchestrate database changes so users/systems are not affected
Access Management
Stackdriver Monitoring (Google Cloud Monitoring) and Alerting
Providing Best Practice guidance to developers
Verification of proposed schemas
Assist in SQL optimisation
Maintaining a Data Catalog to provide insight into data
Create and maintain a user access policy
Be the key point of contact for IT Developers
What we’re looking for
As the successful candidate you must be a post graduate or equivalent and have excellent experience in software development particularly with database integration and be able to show that you understand the lifecycle of enterprise data. We would also expect;
Excellent SQL competency
Have an understanding of data life cycles.
Knowledge of Google Cloud Platform is advantageous
Apply great attention to detail
Exhibit strong problem-solving skills
Be organised and have solid time management skills, with the ability to work on multiple tasks at the same time
Work well in a challenging and changing environment
Effectively communicate with stakeholders and project managers when required
