Shearwater takes the position as the world’s leading full-service geophysical company and we are looking for ambitious, dynamic and competent Global Head of IT to join our rapidly growing business. The preferred location of the position is at our office in Bergen, Norway. However consideration will also be given for candidates preferring to be located at our offices in either Gatwick UK, or Oslo, Norway.

As the Global Head of IT you will be responsible for defining and delivering the IT strategy, ensuring that it is aligned to the current business priorities and long-term strategy.

The Global Head of IT will lead the IT organisation that is located in Norway, UK, US and Malaysia, supporting all our businesses, both our onshore and offshore.

The successful candidate will relate to the company culture of being safe, respectful, inclusive, dynamic and ambitious. You will have the ability to build good relationship within the organisation and have a strong sense of integrity and excellent communication skills.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Providing IT leadership, budgeting and technical support.
  • Manage information security risk at the enterprise level.
  • Demonstrate Information Security Leadership and support
  • Lead the IT organisation, providing a focus on long term growth, development and succession planning.
  • Working closely with key stakeholders across the company in the strategic planning for all IT systems and personnel both in the offices and onboard the vessels
  • Overseeing the development of relevant organisational technology policies, standards, governance and performance metrics, to ensure IT delivers value to the business.
  • Ensure that the company has information security systems in place to meet internal and external regulations.
  • Implement and maintain an IT infrastructure that is robust, secure and meets the business demands.
  • Provide expert advice and support to other departments in IT related decisions and issues.
  • Continuous improvement and development in all aspects of the department.
  • Management of resources to enable a high quality and efficient service ensuring future demand can be met.
  • Responsibility for the management of the department finances, developing annual and project budgets and providing guidance on relevant business line expenditure.
  • Keep up to date with technical development in the field of IT and other relevant areas to advise on new solutions and their implementation.
  • Travel to sites both on shore (UK offices) and off shore (Marine Vessels)

Qualifications

  • Education to degree level or relevant work experience
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in the field of corporate IT support and operations
  • Proven understanding of corporate IT infrastructure and related technology
  • Previous experience working with IT on Marine vessels would be an advantage but not essential
  • Experience of leading teams - listening to and resolving people’s concerns and worries, ensuring people are clear about what is needed from them and that they have what they need to do their jobs.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving capabilities
  • Excellent communication skills with a customer orientated approach
  • Ability to communicate technical details to a non-technical audience, both written and verbally
  • Possess a positive attitude, customer focused and ability to quickly build and maintain relationships with employees at all levels
