Overview

Principal Location:

Durdar – Carlisle, Cumbria

Working Hours:

40 hours per week – For full time position

Or flexible part time hours for the right candidate

Will consider part time working solution

To be worked between core business hours which are 07:00 – 18:00

Salary:

£45,000 - £50,000 basic, plus profit share or bonus scheme ( to be discussed)

Leave Entitlement:

28 days per year (inclusive of public holidays)

Pro-rata for part time hours

Purpose of the Role

As a key member of the executive team, the General Manager will take responsibility for the day to day administration and management of business operations. During this growth phase of the organisation, the role will be multi-faceted with accountabilities related to hiring and development of people, engagement with customers, development and implementation of business systems and management of regulatory compliance obligations. The General Manager will serve as the principal point of contact for all internal and external stakeholder enquiries.

The role will be well suited to an individual who thrives in a fast-paced and evolving environment where competing priorities will require strong organisation, effective communication and clear direction. The ability to translate high level strategic concepts from the Managing Director into tactical initiatives will be critical to the success of the person in this role.

Accountabilities (Non-exhaustive)

People Leadership & Performance

  • Overall responsibility for all people and performance related issues.
  • Recruitment, training and performance management of employees in line with the business growth strategy.
  • Daily/weekly/monthly workload allocation and time management support.
  • Work with HR consultants to develop best practice training & development programs including promotional pathways.
  • Create and promote a work culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and customer service excellence.
  • Development of systems and tools to ensure that the business is compliant with all applicable employment laws.

Sales

  • sales conversions based on campaigns and sales KPIs - commercial.
  • Analysing budgets, preparing annual budget plans, scheduling expenditures, and ensuring that we meet our targets and goals.
  • Implementing new sales plans and advertising.
  • Developing trade and wholesale accounts with dedicated marketing concepts and increasing their excitement of our brand and products
  • Commercial sales and marketing experience. Previous history of successful sales campaigns.
  • Recruiting, training, scheduling, coaching, and managing external sales team assistance to meet sales target objectives.
  • Maintaining relationships with important clients by making regular contact, understanding their needs, and anticipating new sales opportunities.

Business Operations

  • Overall responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the business.
  • Responsibility for the profitability of the business including budgeting, payroll, expense management and cost saving/value adding initiatives.
  • Development and implementation of systems and processes to support operational growth and efficiency in line with the strategic business plan.
  • Oversight of the finance function and provision of support in relation to timely invoicing, credit management and collections.
  • Development and implementation of quality management systems to ensure that products and service meet the high expectations of the market.
  • Monthly financial reporting to Managing Director
  • Production of a quarterly board pack including financials, sales goals, business challenges, etc

Regulatory Compliance

  • Overall responsibility for all regulatory and legislative compliance.
  • Periodically review and remain current with the regulatory landscape to ensure compliance.
  • Work closely with parent company to stay up to date on existing and future product lines and launches.
  • Delivery of product training and compliance training to all applicable employees.

Essential Skills, Attributes and Qualifications

  • A genuine interest in sustainable health, wellbeing and nutrition in line with company values.
  • Formal qualifications in business, sales or similar field.
  • Demonstrable experience in driving start-up business performance in a growth industry.
  • Highly effective people leadership and HR management experience.
  • Commitment to empowerment and supporting diversity in the workplace.
  • Ability to translate strategic business goals into effective tactical initiatives.
  • Well-developed communication skills with the ability to understand, interpret and articulate complex ideas to a broad audience.
  • Strong work ethic, with the ability to motivate yourself and your team under challenging circumstances.
  • High level of autonomy and proficiency in IT applications including business, creative design and CRM systems.
  • Full and clean driving licence and own vehicle required.
