The role of Associate, Green Buildings in the GECA team is to support the team’s effort in scaling up investments in green buildings across banking teams in the EBRD’s countries of operation by supporting business development activities, innovation, new aggregation mechanisms and project structuring and development.

The role will entail: i) identifying, defining and structuring green buildings investments working across the regional and banking matrix with private and public sector Clients, ii) supporting the definition of innovative investment vehicles to promote, aggregate and scale up EBRD investments; iii) supporting the development and implementation of technical assistance assignments to ensure GET investment activity; iv) supporting the delivery of relevant policy dialogue activities and sustainability strategies with local authorities and corporate clients to accelerate the decarbonisation of buildings; v) supporting the implementation of relevant market/sector/country analytics to inform investment programmes.


Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Support independently the unit in structuring an increasingly complex level of innovative financial products and TC aimed at aggregating and catalysing green buildings investments;
  • Undertake marketing and business development efforts in the relevant sector and countries to build reputable market contacts and develop deal flow and cross selling of the Bank’s competencies.
  • As a project team member, influence clients in order to structure and deliver GET element of banking transactions to ensure that GET is mainstreamed/maximised in the projects financed by EBRD and transactions comply with internal governance e.g. Paris Alignment;
  • Work as a project team member to develop new products and contribute to all other aspects project structuring and execution, including implementing, and monitoring.
  • Support the implementation of relevant market/sector/country analytics to promote specific GET investments.
  • Structure and manage outsourced assignments for technical and policy services to clients. These will include project preparation, policy advice and sustainability strategies for the corporate sector
  • Assist in providing necessary support, in the form of relevant information or documentation for meeting participation, towards efforts to procure grants and technical cooperation funds to complement investment projects or required as part of policy dialogue effort.
  • Support the delivery of policy dialogue assignments and formulation of policy dialogue interventions required to put in place and improve regulations enabling GET investments, with particular focus on buildings;
  • Responsible and accountable for launching and managing Technical Cooperation assignments (from identification of the objectives and TOR, to procurement, management of consulting teams, connection of results with the bankers) to maximise use of funds for GET

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Relevant degree in engineering from a leading university in the country of education; a combination of technical and commercial skills is advantageous.
  • Proven experience in relevant technical and commercial work experience gained from: i) an engineering and/or consultancy organisation, preferably involved in green buildings; or ii) an entity (e.g. IFI, NGO, Bank) operating in structuring/promoting green investments and policies, possibly in green buildings; or iii) an entity operating, designing, constructing or managing buildings (e.g. municipalities, property funds, real estate investment trust, construction companies, energy management companies, etc.)
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with sustainable/green financing (green buildings is a key advantage) with a very strong awareness and interest in the related issues.
  • Computer literacy (advanced Excel/PowerPoint, MS Word) and excellent written/oral communication skills in English are essential.
  • Proven track record in managing consultants and related assignments is advantageous
  • Sound understanding of business and finance principles (including notions of corporate credit analysis).
  • Good understanding of policy in the areas of climate change, resource efficiency and energy efficiency in buildings, sustainable practices in the building sector.
  • Ability to operate consistently within business guidelines and ethics and work sensitively in multicultural environments, building effective working relations with clients and colleagues.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work to and meet tight deadlines and to plan and organise work unsupervised in a logical and efficient manner.
  • Ability to communicate appropriate, concise and accurate information in verbal and written formats, appropriate to the audience at the time and confidence in handling senior stakeholders.
  • The ability to tackle issues and problems in a logical and practical manner
