What the average day in the life of an officer within your team looks like

We have developed a flexible way of working which includes a mix of working away from home and home working. As a senior field engineer you are expected to work independently, paired and as a small team on a task by task basis. You are empowered to manage your technical tasks, administration and co-ordination to deliver the project uplift.

Job description

The Field Engineering team sits within Technology Delivery in Digital Data and Technology (DDaT). Technology Delivery is responsible for the:
  • Overall coordination of the agency’s investment strategy and roadmap for capability development and skills growth.
  • Deployment of high-end capabilities in support of live operations, providing NCA with capabilities for 21st century law enforcement.
Technology Delivery leads on specifying, designing, developing, delivering and supporting new technical capabilities (operational, business, back office and corporate) across the agency.

Individuals will require successful completion of SC Enhanced clearance before commencing the role and achieve DV clearance within one year of joining the team

Responsibilities

In a multi-disciplined engineering team, the field engineer will be using their skills and expertise to:

  • To execute and manage the successful delivery output of technical and scientific based projects within Technology Delivery, including in challenging and high risk environments such as at height and in remote and difficult locations.
  • Ensure collaboration opportunities are explored with government and commercial enterprise in the furtherance of National Crime Agency (NCA) technical covert surveillance capability.
  • Implement/supervise the successful delivery of research/development project outputs and undertake the evaluation of prototype technical surveillance equipment in support of Agency operations.
  • Provide detailed advice to the organisation and external partners in support of on-going research and evaluation projects.
  • Provide advice on legislation, policy, tactical options and evidential opportunities to assist in the planning and implementation of investigations and operations.
  • Represent the organisation at forums both internally and externally and contribute to the development of innovate techniques for use in covert environments.
  • Monitor operational performance in relation to covert surveillance.
  • Promote professional standards and provide advice, support and develop management reports in relation to criminal and misconduct allegations that impact on organisational delivery or the Agency’s reputation (as required).
  • Manage/coach and develop staff.

Qualifications

The following qualifications/skills are essential to the role and proof will be required at interview:
  • Relevant degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or Mathematics or equivalent relevant experience.

  • Ability to Work at Height in an outdoor environment as part of a team in challenging and remote locations
