About the role
We are seeking a Functional Project Manager to join the business on a permanent basis at our Crewe site. Reporting to the Head of BiW and Safety, the Functional Project Manager will lead the technical delivery for a BEV BiW project, and is the engineering representative supporting the Module. The role is broad and has a matrix responsibility to the Engineering Platform Leader to ensure the successful achievement of the engineering project deliverables.


The BiW team are responsible for the Design, Development and Validation of all Bentley BiW products, including Bonnet, Boot and Doors as well as all aspects of Vehicle Passive Safety and Body & Trim Validation. We engage with the Product Development process from Concept through to Engineering Sign Off, and work extensively with an international and varied supplier base as well as our Group BiW Assy partners, to deliver world class solutions.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Oversees delivery of the BiW System from concept to market entry, achievement of gateways in PEP (Product Emergence Process) to achieve SOP in accordance with the engineering project delivery plan
  • Representative in all relevant forums, deployment of the functional technical strategies/roadmaps into the project
  • Delivery, Control and Change Management; define specific engineering deliverables at relevant PEP gateways for the project, measure delivery status with early warning KPI system
  • Specification management; management and communication of project content, evaluation of project impact on Attribute delivery/departmental strategies and technical roadmaps
  • Prioritisation of departmental activities; influence functional team to ensure engagement in delivering high quality, innovative solutions, evaluate conflicting customer needs
  • Technical evaluation; review and challenge technical concepts and their suitability for the project targets, understand technical drivers behind analysis and solutions, link to departmental strategy/attributes or technical roadmap
  • Budget management responsibility for all aspects or BiW delivery across their sphere of control (typically aligned to a specific Product Line)


About the Person
The successful candidate will be in an automotive engineering or project management role looking to utilise their skills in a different capacity. You will be an excellent communicator that can liaise effectively across multiple functions across the business and Group partners to achieve complex deliverables. You will have the ability to represent and influence in internal and external business forums on behalf of the Engineering Function. Electric vehicle experience would be advantageous. German language skills would also be advantageous.

You will demonstrate:
  • Automotive BiW / Complex System Design & Development experience
  • Experience in Mechanical Engineering with the ability to review and challenge technical concepts
  • Previous project management experience; the ability to manage change is essential for this role
  • Experience of delivering large, complex systems to Bentley PEP (product emergence process), including significant budget management
  • Knowledge of creating, presenting and managing KPI’s
  • Ability to communicate and escalate issues effectively and to represent and influence internal and external business forums on behalf of the Engineering Function
  • Attention to planning, to make priority judgements across deliverables (quality/cost/time)
