We are looking for a full time Front of House Spervisor to join our busy café team at the Weald & Downland Living Museum, PO18 0EU, paying a salary of £20,800 p.a. Daytime working hours offering a great work/life balance. This post is for a full time 5/7 position but we would be happy to consider a part time, pro rata, position of 4/7 days.

Working at the Weald & Downland Living Museum, you will be in the heart of 40 acres of beautiful countryside overlooking a 17th century watermill set in the rolling hills of the South Downs National Park.

You will be part of a busy café team responsible for running the front of house, serving a varied visitor profile from families enjoying a day out to history fans keen to see the historic houses that make up the Museum’s collection, to friends wanting to find the perfect spot for a long lunch and a chat.

You’ll be a key part of welcoming visitors to the Museum, serving customers front of house and making the café an inviting, friendly place to be.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title:Welcome Team Supervisor(café)

Reports to: Café Manager

Hours: 5/7 days a week. Annualised equivalent of 40 hours a week or 4/7 days annualised equivalent of 32 hours a week.

Salary: £20,800 p.a. full time. pro-rata if part time.

Overall Job Purpose

This position will be primarily based in the Weald & Downland Museum café. However, the Welcome team operates across both the café and shop at the Museum. As Supervisor, you may from time to time, be asked to supervise or assist in the shop. We also operate a ‘one team’ ethos, meaning stepping into tasks and roles within the café that are outside your main duties, such as supporting in the kitchen, if required from time to time.

As Welcome Team Supervisor (café) your primary role is:

  • To be responsible for the day to day running of the cafe front of house
  • To support the Café Manager in ensuring the Museum café runs smoothly and deputise for the Café Manager as and when required.
  • To manage and direct front of house staff to deliver a high quality, friendly experience to all customers

Accountabilities/Responsibilities

Customer Focus

  • To ensure all customers receive exemplary service. An experience that is warm, welcoming and positive
  • To ensure the team respond swiftly and positively to customer needs so all customers have a high quality experience
  • To ensure the café offers a welcoming, comfortable and clean environment at all times and to the highest standards
  • To ensure accurate and efficient communication between the front of house and kitchen

Team

  • To be a role model to the Welcome team and casual team members
  • To motivate, supervise and direct the front of house team to deliver a high-quality, customer focused service

Systems & Governance

  • To ensure all daily operational procedures are adhered to by staff
  • To cash up at the end of the day, reporting any discrepancies
  • To ensure the compliance of all health and safety and food safety regulations front of house
  • In the event of an emergency to take responsibility for customers and staff and follow emergency and evacuation procedures

Development

  • To make suggestions to improve the café service, customer experience and income generation opportunities based on your experience front of house
  • To monitor and report to the Café Manager any issues relating to staff, food safety and health and safety
  • To suggest improvements to daily operating procedures based in your experience of using them

Other

  • To support the kitchen staff, when required with food preparation, washing up and clean down as may be required from time to time
  • To assist in the Museum shop with sales and admissions as may be required from time to time
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties as required by your line manager or senior management

Competence / Knowledge / Skills required

  • Experience of working in a high volume catering environment
  • Computer literate, with experience with EPOS systems
  • A positive, can-do, customer focused attitude which can be maintained under pressure
  • Ability to motivate a team and lead by example
  • Proactive, flexible and a hands-on team player
