Job overview

We are looking to appoint a Band 6 Mental Health Practitioner with Occupational Therapy Specialism. This post is working with the West Home Treatment Team based at Longreach House, Cambourne and Redruth Hospital.

The post would suit a motivated, experienced and skilled occupational therapist who is competent in the use of occupational therapy approaches and interventions to support recovery in mental health crisis. You will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team comprising of nurses, AMHPs, social workers, support workers, psychiatrist, psychologist, pharmacist, and Clinical Associate Psychologists. You will be required to work autonomously and flexibly.

This is a full time post.

The post holder will be able to work 13 long days over a 4 week period, or Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm

Main duties of the job

The postholder must be keen to play a role in service development and be creative and forward thinking.

This post will require you to assess and work with clients in crisis who may present with a range of mental health difficulties. The role involves contributing to and carrying out shared team care plans in addition to completing specialist occupational therapy assessment and intervention. The post holder will be required to have skills in assessing risk and working with service users around developing safety plans.

This post will involve providing supervision to support worker and occupational therapy apprentice colleagues. You will liaise with your occupational therapy colleague in the East Home Treatment Team in order to support your development in the role and to ensure a consistent approach.

As part of a growing network of occupational therapists within the trust you will have access to regular occupational therapy supervision. You will be invited to join the monthly occupational therapy best practice form which will provide networking and continuing professional development opportunities. There will be training opportunities associated with the role available. Knowledge of MOHO and associated assessment tools is an advantage for this role.

Qualifications/ Experience

Essential criteria
  • BSc/ diploma Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Post grad training/CPD eg, AMPS, Sensory Integration, DBT, Solution focused Therapy
  • Substantial post registration experience including working in a mental health setting

Skills and aptitude

Essential criteria
  • Effective written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills
  • Experience of clinical risk assessment and management in mental health
  • Ability to work autonomously, set own priorities and manage time effectively
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in audit, research and project management

Personal qualities

  • Evidence of self-directed CPD
