About the role


An exciting opportunity has arisen for the appointment of an experienced food and safety officer on a permanent post for 18.5 hours per week.


You will provide a customer focussed approach to business regulation requirements across the district. The role involves the provision of expert advice, support and guidance to both existing and new businesses enforcing food safety and health and safety legislation in those businesses. You will also be expected to carry out reactive communicable disease control and complaint investigation work and to contribute to other areas of enforcement such as licensing, event work and environmental protection.


Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.


This position is currently based at our Castlewood offices in Clevedon. Please be advised that this office will be closed by 2025. Consultation is currently underway to determine the new location for colleagues based in Castlewood; This will be at Weston-super-Mare or within North Somerset.


About you

You will be an experienced food law enforcement officer with competency to inspect all category A to E food businesses. You must hold a relevant degree and you must hold EHRB certification. You will have experience in food law enforcement and comply with the competencies for authorised officers as detailed in the Food Law Code of Practice. You will be familiar with all aspects of food and safety enforcement and have a broad and technical knowledge of environmental health enforcement matters. You will ideally possess a health and safety qualification equivalent to the NEBOSH certificate in Health and Safety.


You must have experience in preparing and writing reports and the ability to compose and serve statutory notices and experience of taking formal action.


You will be a team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a commitment to continuing professional development to deliver the duties of the post.


The duties of the post may require the post holder to work outside of normal working hours and occasionally at weekends.
