British Sugar is the leading Sugar supplier in the UK and one of the most efficient Sugar processors in the world. Partnering with over 3,500 growers to produce home grown sugar, supplying around 50% of the UK’s sugar market, we are proud to be building and supporting a Beet Sugar industry that works for Britain.
We are looking to recruit an individual to fill a seasonal role during our sugar beet processing campaign, running from mid-September to mid-February.
You will join our Process Development team and will be involved in exciting new scientific development work aiming to improve our process and reduce our cost base.
Main Scope of Role
A primarily laboratory-based role carrying out both routine and ad hoc analysis to support process development projects, candidates will be expected to perform the following:

  • Safe collection of manufacturing samples from the factory.
  • Updating of laboratory sample inventory.
  • Carry out specific sample preparation and analysis methods according to instruction in a safe manner.
  • Accurate and organised recording of results.
  • Flagging and discussion of issues and observations.
  • Maintaining a safe, clean and organised work environment to ensure smooth running.
  • Engage and cooperate with other team members to deliver on a dynamic work schedule.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required
Strong safety awareness.
Good timekeeping and communication skills.
Science qualifications at GCSE level.
Basic IT knowledge.
Ability to carry out basic calculations accurately.
Ideally some prior lab experience.
Full training provided.
