Job Description/Specification

Lumentum have an exciting opportunity for a Firmware Managerto join our R&D team based in our Paignton, Devon office. We invite candidates who want to make a meaningful contribution to our company’s success while learning from industry leading experts in photonics

The Firmware Manager will be responsible for managing an existing team of FW & Regression Engineers, including contractors. We are looking for a highly motivated individual with leadership and communication skills as well as with technical knowledge on FW development. The role is multi-disciplinary, hands on, with a firmware foundation and skills such as Roadmap definition and maintenance, program management, coding and solving technical issues.

Direct experience in firmware development and verification using small and powerful microcontrollers systems is highly desired.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Management of the Firmware Development Team and optimisation of development tools.

Responsible for recruitment, quarterly team performance appraisal reviews & department budget.

Definition and maintenance of the Firmware Roadmap.

Definition and execution of FW development Plans, including sprint planning and prioritization.

· Effective and efficient communication of plan status to peers and Management structure.

· Generation and maintenance of all necessary documentation

· Engagement with broader development team for problem resolution

· Primary FW interface with customers and partners

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor (B.Sc. / B Eng.) in Electronic Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or related discipline with strong firmware content.
• 3 years of experience in Management of a Firmware Team within a development environment.
• 5 years of hands-on experience in development of Firmware over the product lifecycle.
• Detail understanding of Software development processes and Configuration Management tools.
• Competency in using MS Project or equivalent
• Proficiency in C#, C & python
• Understanding of advanced schematics, design concepts & patterns
• Detail understanding of advance FW testing methodologies

ADVANTAGOUS REQUIREMENTS:

• Management of product requirements & testing
• Knowledge and experience in Transceiver management standards such as SFF-8636, CMIS and C-CMIS, CFP2 MSA & MIS is desired
• Knowledge of agile project management
