We’re looking for an enthusiastic individual with strong managerial skills and financial management knowledge to lead Central Payments specifically the Accounts Payable and Purchasing Card Teams within the Business Support Centre (BSC).

The BSC is part of the Shared Services function within Leeds City Council. The BSC provides employment, finance and other administration support activities to a wide range of teams and services across the council and over 240 schools, academies, colleges, universities and other external partners. The BSC also includes the council’s corporate mail, print and records management facility.

The post-holder will have responsibility for managing the Central Payments specifically the Accounts Payable and Purchasing Card Teams.

The work is fast paced and varied and combines the need to understand the Council’s financial administration processes and systems, with having a strong customer focussed approach and a drive to deliver service improvements.

The ideal candidate will be a confident staff manager with a good working knowledge of FMS and accounts payable functions. We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic about change and delivering service improvement, with the foresight to understand how to exploit technology to deliver optimum business operations.

The role requires excellent people and management skills, the ability to work on your own initiative and be solutions focussed. You should be able to manage and lead a team, as well as manging relationships with suppliers, partners and client groups. You should have experience in managing and monitoring performance activity of individuals, teams and services and setting objectives and targets.

Main Duties Will Involve

To lead and manage the Accounts Payable and Purchasing Card Teams taking responsibility for the coaching, mentoring and facilitation of training and work instructions for the team.

Contribution as a member of the senior management team in developing an effective, efficient support services to meet the needs of the Chief Officer’s service.

Liaise and establish quality working relationships with all relevant services and external organisations.

Lead, motivate, develop and appraise staff to ensure work is carried out effectively and efficiently, deadlines are met and work is completed to high standards.

Work in conjunction with Senior Managers and work as part of a team to achieve service objectives.

Work pro-actively and independently managing and prioritising own workload, and the workload of others, to ensure objectives and targets are met.
