River Cottage has an exciting opportunity for a hands-on immediate start Financial Controller.

Initially on a 3-6 month temp contract, joining the team in a busy and diverse role during a time of exciting changes.

Working flexibly and mainly remotely, you will need to be able to visit River Cottage HQ in Axminster, Devon (EX13 8TB) for weekly/regular meetings with our Head of Business Finance.

Key responsibilities

  • Own the ledgers and finance system - Daily maintenance of the Finance system, SAGE 200, covering all daily processes and controls.
  • Oversee the purchase ledger functions, supported by a transactional Assistant.
  • Operate the sales ledger functions, associated systems and bank reconciliations.
  • Liaise with customers and suppliers as necessary.
  • Regular bank reconciliations and associated transactions.
  • Detailed daily cashflow management / planning and bank accounts maintenance.
  • Operate Inter-Co transactions and maintain associated reconciliations.
  • Support the stock-take, stock control and stock transaction functions ensuring effective controls.
  • Work closely with RC Sales Head and liaise with associated RC Branded product Suppliers to maintain RC Branded Product sales, reconciliations, reporting and associated accounting.
  • Maintain RC merchandise ordering, stock and accounting, and associated transactions.
  • Work closely with Operations Head to ensure EPOS controls, coding, reconciliations and reporting structures are correct.
  • Work closely with Head Chef & SMT to support cost control within budgets / standards.
  • Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns.
  • Produce weekly FLASH (kpi) report.
  • Support the Management Accounts processes to draft TB stage, including stock, accruals and pre-payments adjustments, and review with Head of Business Finance.
  • Produce monthly BS control accounts.
  • Support the preparation of Year-end statutory accounts and associated transactions, reports and returns.
  • Manage workload and performance of Finance Assistant, ensuring satisfactory performance, role development and job satisfaction.
  • Support the 3 year business planning process.
  • Support Head of Business Finance as necessary.
