The job in a nutshell
Accountable for the management, performance & improvement of the Transaction Services teams. Responsible for driving continuous improvement, automation and efficiency of processes across all these areas & delivering controlled operations:
Revenue Accounting & receivables – Revenue accounting & reconciliation, Accounts Receivable management & collection
Hotel Banking – Reconciliation of all cash / payment card transactions & follow up of discrepancies
Accounts Payable – Processing & payment of suppliers & Employee Expenses
The role has 2 direct reports, although the full transactional services is a team of 13.
What you’ll be doing:
Manage the Transaction Services teams and processes ensuring service levels are delivered and that transactions are recorded and posted right first time
Maintain policies, procedures and controls and follow up on non compliance
Drive improvement across transaction processes to deliver automation and efficiency in transaction teams, and simplifying processes for all
Ensure accurate and up to date balance sheet reconciliations for areas of responsibility
Engage with other functions across the business as appropriate in order to meet the business needs in a controlled & efficient manner
Work with the controls and finance systems teams to ensure processes and controls are documented and tested, and that systemic solutions are implemented to drive efficiency and enhance the roles of the team
Revenue Accounting and receivables
Maintain relationship with Sales team, reviewing all new corporate credit applications and requests for additional credit and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards on recognification of expected credit risk.
Manage the reporting process for Revenue, reviewing journals and supporting calculations at month end to ensure income streams are completely and accurately reported.
Attend and contribute to month end review meetings in relation to relevant income reconciliations.
Manage and maintain the relationship with the Customer Services team including review of refunds processed.
Manage and maintain the relationship with managed contract operators ensuring accurate invoicing of relevant costs and monitoring of receivable balances.
Hotel Accounts
Ensure insightful & actionable exception reporting produced and distributed on a timely basis to Hotel, Field Operations & other departments to ensure timely resolution of discrepancies and compliance with policy and procedures
Accounts Payable
Provide contact for day to day queries around new supplier set up, invoicing issues and expenses process, ensuring company policy is adhered to
Manage the company’s performance on supplier payments in line with agreed targets for external reporting
Ensure the board approved delegated authorities for approval levels are adhered to
Work closely with the FP&A team to drive accurate short term cash flow forecasting based on anticipated payments
Assist in embedding the company PO process and system, working with the wider business and Head of Transactional Finance
Administration of the Company credit card to set up new users and report on ageing claims
Team
Carry out weekly 1:1’s and annual appraisal process for direct reports
Provide coaching and development opportunities to direct reports and to the wider CFO team as required
Support the success of the team by driving engagement, and providing clear objectives and regular feedback
Contribute to maintaining Travelodge to be a great place to work
What we’ll expect from you
Relevant accounting qualification
A good leader and people manager, experienced in managing a significant team
Attention to detail and ability to manage and deliver against tight deadlines
A passion for, and track record of, delivering process improvement & efficiency
A desire to provide a great customer service both internally and externally
Self-motivated, demonstrating the ability to prioritise and manage own workload
Strong communication and influencing skills and an ability to work across a variety of functions and disciplines
Experience of managing change
Desirable
Experience in a multi-location business probably in either the Retail or hospitality sectors.
