Job Title: Finance Officer

Reports to: Executive Director

Purpose:

To have responsibility for and to undertake the effective oversight of the finances of Christian Residential Network (CRNet) and its trading arm, Christian Supply Chain Buying Group UK Limited (CSCBG)

Accountability Accountable to the Executive Director for all aspects of their work.

Main Functions

 To take an active part in the spiritual aspects of the work, including staff prayer times

 To be part of the office-based CRNet and CSCBG staff team

 To oversee all daily and monthly bookkeeping and accounting functions of CRNet and CSCBG

 To work with other CRNet and CSCBG staff to manage the annual national conference and exhibition

 To attend Board, Council and other meetings, as requested

 To attend conferences, as requested

 To carry out any detailed work from the CRNet Strategic Plan

 To carry out ad hoc tasks requested by the Executive Director and Supply Chain Manager (CSCBG).

Bookkeeping for CRNet and CSC BG:

 Carry out bookkeeping and data processing using QuickBooks (online version) (preferred but not vital).

 Maintain Purchase ledger, Sales ledger and Nominal ledgers.

 Maintain fixed asset register.

 Carry out monthly reconciliation of all control accounts.

 Update, manage and distribute bursary funds accurately and with complete transparency.

 Calculate and process monthly journals for payroll and other monthly adjustments.

 Run Payroll on QuickBooks and keep accurate payroll records and functions. Also calculate and submit Furlough claims until end of scheme.

 Oversee PAYE, VAT (when applicable), Gift Aid reclaims from HMRC, making any reclaims as required.

 Draft Budget preparation: to produce, together with the Executive Director and Supply Chain Manager (CSCBG), proposed annual budgets for the March Board meetings of CRNet and CSCBG

 Prepare for audit the annual accounts for CRNet and CSCBG.

 Regular preparation of Management Accounts, including cashflows. General Administration for CRNet and CSCBG:

 Answering the telephone, taking messages and dealing with enquiries in a professional manner.

 Have a working knowledge of the DBS service and Venue Finding in order to answer questions from members and oversee the service during other staff absence.

 Have a working knowledge of the CSC Buying group, its suppliers, its purpose and all general functions.

Personal development

 To undertake appropriate training as necessary.

 To participate in an annual review/appraisal programme, from which a personal training and development plan will be developed and actioned.

Job Specification and Qualifications

We are looking for an experienced Bookkeeper Administrator, AAT qualified to Level 2 or preferably Level 3, who is a conscientious, reliable and trustworthy individual with good communication skills. Able to work within deadlines with strong attention to detail and accuracy. IT Skills are essential, including the MS Office suite and ideally QuickBooks (online version). Competence in the areas of VAT, Gift Aid and cashflows would be desirable. Working up to 18 hours across 4 or 5 days a week. Providing ad-hoc administration and support to the Management Team. The salary is expected to be in the range £20,000-22,500 p.a. pro rata for a maximum of 18 hours. A pension contribution is made to a Pensions Regulator approved pension fund of your choice. Holiday entitlement starts at 4 weeks plus bank holidays, pro rata. CRNet would consider a self employed person working to a contract for this role.

Personal Requirements

The successful candidate is likely to have the following proven track record: You will have a background in accountancy & finance, including the ability to produce a full set of financial and management accounts. You will have a stable CV that demonstrates commitment and tenure to your roles and the organisations you have worked for. You will need to be flexible, able to work on own initiative and be able to prioritise your own workload. Strong working knowledge of accounting package/s (QuickBooks (online version) preferred but not vital) and Microsoft Excel are essential. Familiarity with aspects of charity finances and the Charity Commission SORP are preferred, as well as a working knowledge of VAT.

Due to the size of team at CRNet and the customer facing nature of the role, there is an Occupational Requirementthat this post is held by a Christian. Therefore, you will be able to demonstrate a commitment to Christ and be a regular, serving member in a Christian church context, in line with the aims of CRNet.
