Field Service Engineer (Submarine Support)

Would you like to play a crucial role in the support of the Royal Navy’s Submarine Service? We currently have a vacancy for a mobile Field Service Engineer (Submarine Support) in our Maritime Services business. This will be a mobile role with travel required to predominantly UK-based locations such as Faslane, Devonport and Portsmouth.

As a Field Service Engineer, you will be working within a growing team, providing submarine platform diagnostic and maintenance support for hydraulic and electro-mechanical systems.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work within a customer-facing environment, alongside cutting-edge technology in an ever changing and growing landscape. Future career progression could be the opportunity to work in other projects, on other platforms or lead to an engineering management position.

Your main responsibilities as a Field Service Engineer (Submarine Support) will involve:
  • Mobile engineering support for submarine systems and associated equipment in the UK
  • Providing on-call support as required
  • Answering technical queries about your work within your level of knowledge and competence
  • Raising risk assessments and method statements to cover work
  • Designing and developing solutions to a range of common design situations and problems
  • Working as part of a team and under limited technical supervision
  • Understanding and applying a range of fundamental design processes, tools, systems and techniques
  • Communicating with internal and external customers and with other functions
  • Performing self-verification of own tasks to ensure completeness and quality and to arrange checking of work by the appropriate authority

Your skills and qualifications as a Field Service Engineer (Submarine Support):

Essential
  • Electro-Mechanical/Hydraulic engineering background
  • Experience of fault-finding, repair and commissioning of complex electronic systems
  • Report writing skills
  • HND qualified or higher (or equivalent qualification or experience)


Desirable
  • Experience of working offsite and providing practicable solutions
  • Knowledge of Field Services environment
  • Background in military or defence engineering

Attention to detail is critical for the role, so you must have a confident approach to your work and work well under pressure. Flexibility and adaptability will be key to success in this role. This is a customer facing role, so you will have excellent people and behavioural skills.

Location: Mobile – travel will include locations such as: Faslane, Plymouth and Portsmouth
