As a Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for the Mechanical repair, service, installation and commissioning of rotating plant across the customer sites of Howden, and work for other businesses in the UK/Overseas to support as necessary. You will focus on turbo-machinery (compressors and steam turbines), fans and associated equipment, and the role is primarily mechanically biased but electrical experience would be advantageous.
What Needs To Be Done?
  • Ensure adherence to company environmental, health and safety standards in compliance with company policies to ensure a safe working environment and the minimization of environmental impact
  • Preparation of Health and Safety risk assessments prior to and during on-site assignments, strictly following Howden and customer Health and Safety policies
  • Involvement of all on-site activities for the routine service, repair, installation and commissioning of rotating equipment in compliance with company standards and requirements
  • Communicate with clients to control on-site activities and provide technical support pertinent to installation, commissioning and service/ repair
  • Prepare and issue all documentation relative to processing of on-site activities – daily reports, visit reports, site communications, time-sheets and commissioning documents
  • Carry out on site analysis of machinery and provide condition reports with the aim of driving additional business through service upgrades/ spare parts requirements etc
  • Interact and respond to all aspects of the business, supporting SHE, efficiency, delivery and quality improvements.
What Do You Need To Bring?
Essential skills, knowledge & behaviours
  • IOSH Managing Safely
  • Recognised engineering apprenticeship
  • HNC in Mechanical Engineering or relevant experience gained through working in as a multi skilled service engineer in a rotating machinery industry
  • Significant experience of working in a mechanical environment/ industrial sites – Waster Water, PCOG and Power Industry preferred
  • Time Management
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to self-manage in remote locations
  • Frequent travel within the UK and worldwide
Desirable skills, knowledge & behaviours
  • NEBOSH General Certificate
  • HND/Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Knowledge of Electrical systems and Programmable Logic Controllers and applications
  • Control and Instrumentation
  • Process Industry Knowledge – Water, Power, PCOG
