Your main role will be to manage the day to day activities of a fibre team involved in the construction of FTTP networks in a designated area of Zzoomm. You will have experience of FTTP, BTOR PIA underground and overhead networks.
You will be responsible for the Health and Safety of your team, 3rd party contractors and members of the public affected by our fibre installation works.
You will ensure that our fibre teams deliver high quality results while adhering to all relevant internal and BTOR PIA standards and that all fibre installations are tested and confirmed ready for service before being handed over to Service Delivery Team for customer installations.

You will take pride in the way Zzoomm undertakes the deployment of its network and do everything possible to establish and maintain a good reputation with local communities and other stakeholders

**You will report to the Fibre Manager on a daily basis and be a key member of their team.
You will find that Zzoomm adopts a very open operational style and so you will have access to every area of the organisation and will have the opportunity to participate in broad cross-functional discussions around how to get the best results for the Business.

A day in the life of the Fibre Team Leader ..

  • Your role is very “hands-on” and will involve you being out and about most days so that you are visible to your teams and actively affecting the quality and efficiency of their work.
  • You will also be working in close collaboration with the Build teams to schedule fibre splicing and testing works as soon after the ducts have been buried and trench line reinstated as possible.
  • You will be the first point of contact for fibre issues as they arise and will be required to either resolve the problem or escalate to the Fibre Manager so that impact on network being ready for service is minimised.
  • You will ensure that the Systems associated with Fibre Works Order Management are properly utilised and information flows and reporting are fully supported, and suitable risk assessments in place.
  • As well as the fibre teams you will also be responsible for the efficient and proper use of the vehicles, plant, machinery, PIA equipment and tools they use to carry out their work.

What we need you to have ..

  • In-depth understanding of FTTP Network construction, fibre installation and testing practices
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the Openreach PIA network quality standards
  • BT Openreach PIA accreditations SA002/SA001 (Safety UG and OH); PIA Work In Medium Risk Confined Spaces - SA010; PIA Sub-Duct and Cable Installation (Rod and Rope) - S7; PIA Overhead Cable Installation - S8; PIA Pole Stepping on Congested Poles - S9
  • Strong leadership skills and teamwork ethic
  • Knowledge of HSEQ, CDM, NRSWA etc.
  • A valid CSCS/EUSR card would be an advantage
  • NRSWA SLG Supervisor/Operative (Streetworks)
  • Clean UK driving licence
  • NOPS Smart Awards card
  • First aid qualification
  • Site Health and Safety qualification and experience (SSSTS -Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme)
  • MEWP licence would be desirable
  • Tetra L1/2
  • Due to the nature of the role, the candidate must be able to pass a colour perception test to distinguish between different fibres.

You’ll know how to ..

  • Organise resources to ensure efficient and effective fibre installation and testing
  • Motivate and direct individuals and teams to produce high performance and deliver results.
  • Experience of the job role would be preferred, with all relevant Openreach accreditations, but this is not a must as we can provide the relevant training that is required
  • Deliver training within own Team
  • Ensure high standards of Build Quality
  • Read designs, SLDs, Fibre schedules and follow specification
  • FTTP Experience and confident at working at heights and underground network
  • Use of gas detections equipment
  • Ability to follow basic processes and steps in a logical fashion and lead by example
  • Setting up work site in line with NRSWA
  • Ability to use a tablet to read and record site data; e.g. photograph as-built and up load to tablets
  • Ensuring health and safety is paramount at all times and PPE is appropriate for each task
  • Address and resolve problems and complaints ensuring a proactive approach is maintained to build successful working relationships with all Clients and both internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensuring risk assessments are filled in prior to any works commencing on site.
  • Complying with Health and Safety regulations, including appropriate use of SLG, PPE and other tools and equipment, as well as maintaining a safe works site at all times.
  • Ensuring all equipment is fit for purpose and the daily plant check is completed and the relevant forms filled in, forms to be handed in to the supervisor
  • Reporting all issues, accidents, incidents to management
  • Submit improvements and feedback in constructive way for continuous improvement
