Reporting to the Operations Manager the Field Engineer will be responsible for a variety of tasks involved in FTTH / FTTP network build and fibre fault fix, building, maintaining and delivering a quality FTTH / FTTP network. Works will include traditional (civils / buried) and PIA PON installation and build methodologies as well as break dig/fix solutions. The Field Engineer will be responsible for ensuring all works meet Gigaclear standards as well as compliance with NRSWA, SROH and the relevant build & fibre specifications.

Key Accountability & Responsibilities

  • Delivery of the allocated work programmes, working with stakeholders to deliver on time, safely and to standard
  • Trouble shoot, diagnose and carry out fibre fault fixes – fibre testing and splicing
  • Installation of fibre broadband services to residential and business premises, traditional and PIA PON
  • Build and delivery of new PIA PON build communities
  • Providing a first-class customer service
  • Ensure management of any customer complaints, working to resolve any issues in a timely manner.
  • Responsibility for their own and teams’ assurance across quality and Health & Safety standards

Knowledge & Skills

  • Ideally a background in Civils, Fibre and / or Installations
  • Knowledge of Telecoms networks, ideally fibre optic networks (FTTH / FTTP)
  • Or previous experience of residential installations and providing a first class customer facing experience
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and fault fix network issues
  • Knowledge and experience of in the field Civils specifications – NRSWA, SROH, etc
  • Previous experience of delivery to pre-defined project schedules
  • Able to understand, interpret and adhere to risk & method assessments

Qualifications & Accreditations

  • Full driving licence (manual)
  • Ideally an acknowledged fibre qualification
  • Hold or be able to pass a ‘Disclosure and Barring Service’ (DBS) application.
  • Ideally already hold a NRSWA Operative accreditation

Gigaclear started building our direct labour workforce in 2020 and since then it has grown to 60+ Engineers, with this new phase adding another 40 Engineers. Engineers who joined last year have benefited from gaining fibre training as well as industry recognised accreditations. Some have already progressed with promotions into Project Delivery Lead, Designer / Surveyor and management positions within the team.
