The main purpose of your role is to be as part of a fibre installation team engaged in deploying fibre optic cables between Zzoomm communication cabinets (Gateway, Access and Local Drop Cabinets) using Zzoomm own preinstalled ducts and overhead and underground BTOR PIA infrastructure. Once the cables are installed you will be responsible for splicing, terminating and testing the end-to-end integrity of the fibre installation.

Your key responsibilities are:

  • You will travel to sites where our build crews have recently installed cabinets, chambers and ducts and you will blow fibre optic cables through the ducts to connect the network components together, this includes work on BTOR PIA overhead and underground network
  • You will be following a fibre cabling plan provided by our design function and once installed, you will carry out all necessary splicing and termination and then carry out a set of tests that will confirm the integrity and conformance to standards of each fibre section.
  • We will expect you and your colleagues in the fibre installation team to work in such a way that disruption to the public is minimised and every opportunity to show Zzoomm as a considerate organisation is taken and our reputation is enhanced.
  • Individual contributing their skills and experience as needed

You will report to Fibre Team Leader on a day-to-day basis.

Skills, Knowledge, Experience, & Attitude required to do this role

  • Assist with training of new starter and trainees
  • Ensure high standards of Build Quality
  • Read designs, SLDs, Fibre schedules and follow specification
  • Submit improvements and feedback in constructive way for continuous improvement
  • FTTP Experience and confident at working at heights and underground network
  • Use of gas detections equipment
  • Ability to use a tablet to read and record site data; e.g. photograph as-built and up load to tablets
  • Address and resolve problems and complaints ensuring a proactive approach is maintained to build successful working relationships with all Clients and both internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensuring risk assessments are filled in prior to any works commencing on site.
  • Complying with Health and Safety regulations, including appropriate use of SLG, PPE and other tools and equipment, as well as maintaining a safe works site at all times.
  • Complete all equipment checks to ensure it is fit for purpose relevant reports submitted to supervisor
  • Reporting all issues, accidents, incidents to management

Essential Qualifications (you may have these already, or would need to attend training)

  • Demonstrable knowledge of the Openreach PIA network quality standards
  • BT Openreach PIA accreditations SA002/SA001 (Safety UG and OH); PIA Work In Medium Risk Confined Spaces - SA010; PIA Sub-Duct and Cable Installation (Rod and Rope) - S7; PIA Overhead Cable Installation - S8; PIA Pole Stepping on Congested Poles - S9
  • Strong teamwork ethic
  • Knowledge of HSEQ, NRSWA
  • A valid CSCS/EUSR card
  • NRSWA SLG Operative (Streetworks)
  • Clean UK driving licence
  • NOPS Smart Awards card
  • First aid qualification
  • MEWP licence would be desirable
  • Tetra L1/2
