Does the prospect of rearing calves on a large grass-based dairy farm on the beautiful Pembrokeshire coast appeal?

If so, we are offering a three-month work placement for a calf rearer at our dedicated rearing site.

You would be part of a team responsible for the day to day operations of rearing our dairy and beef calves, ensuring they have the highest standards of animal husbandry.

The position comes not just with a competitive rate of pay but with opportunities to learn new skills and gain knowledge to advance your career in agriculture; two of our previous interns are now in management positions within our business.

Key responsibilities

· Rearing livestock in accordance with Red Tractor guidelines

· Ensuring health and welfare of stock are maintained to the highest possible level

· Monitoring and reporting on feed and medicine levels

· Training calves to feed from a multi-point teat feeder

· Feeding and bedding all groups of calves

· Assisting with vaccination, disbudding and TB testing

· Monitoring and reporting on calf health, including treating as appropriate

· Monitoring and reporting on daily feed intakes

· Overseeing weaning

· Telehandler work as required

· An individual who is keen to learn and progress their career

· A team player who can also use their own initiative to carry out tasks

· A genuine interest in animal husbandry

· Someone with practical skills who loves working outdoors - in all types of weathers!

· Previous experience with livestock is desirable, but not essential. Full training will be provided

Accommodation is available in a modern and well-equipped static caravan.

Competitive hourly rate of pay according to experience.

Job Type: Temporary contract

Salary: £11.00-£12.00 per hour

Expected hours: 45 – 55 per week
