Job Summary

Hensting Alpacas is a family business farming Alpacas near Eastleigh. We are looking for help with our alpaca walking enterprise, which will involve building a positive relationship with the alpacas and attending to all their needs. There is 1 position available.

Staff will be required to work with members of the public, demonstrating personal skills such as politeness, professionalism, enthusiasm and good initiative and be polite and professional always. Reliability and punctuality are crucial.

Duties will include supporting on alpaca walking experiences and general animal management. Full training will be provided.

The alpaca walks are carried out 5 days a week and the successful candidate would be required to work Saturdays and Sundays involving three weekends per month. Working hours are 8am-12:30pm and some afternoons 1pm to 3pm Support is required 2 - 4 days per week, which will be flexible and shared with other employees. We also provide 12% of wages each week go into your holiday pot

Responsibilities and Duties

Initial duties each day will include feeding, mucking out and supporting with animal husbandry.

The successful applicant will then be expected to help with the running of the walking enterprise, which will involve haltering the alpacas, attending the shop, car parking duties, and supporting during the walks, including answering questions, taking photos, ensuring health and safety are considered and, most importantly, ensuring customers have an enjoyable experience. This is ideally suited to an active retired person or younger person looking to gain experience working on a farm and working within this fun family environment.

Qualifications and Skills

Being able bodied is important due to the working environment and physical workload. It is also important to be willing to work outside in all weathers, show confidence around strangers and be able to liaise with and reassure guests, therefore a good sense of humour is beneficial. A keen interest in animals is paramount and a good understanding of a farm environment desirable.

Benefits

Wages commence at £10/hour and could potentially increase with experience and on a performance related basis to £12 hour after the introductory period.

This is an extremely enjoyable and rewarding role and we have had a number of people support us voluntarily as it is such good fun!

Full training will be provided and all jobs will be shared on rotation so everyone mucks in, literally!
