The process starts with weighing all ingredients as per a formulation. Depending on the compound it is either mixed in the internal mixer or mill. After mixing, depending on the clients requirement it may be calendered, which is a process where the company produce thin sheets supplied in rolls or in blanks which are then accurately weighed.

Since the job involves helping at various places in the factory it will probably be different every day.

In a typical day you will be:

  • Weighing ingredients for orders received, maybe on the mill where the compound from the internal mixer is dumped or, mixing compound on the mill
  • Helping in the downstream operations, like running the take-off machine, checking the thickness or ensuring no creases in the liner
  • Working on the compression moulding machine, which would involve loading the machine with rubber and removing and trimming moulded parts
  • Working on the injection moulding machine which would be feeding rubber in the injector and then following the process and eventually removing and trimming the moulded parts
  • During a breakdown, you will be helping to fix the issue, if possible
  • Maintaining and repairing machines around the factory

The job is very varied and interesting and no two days will be the same. There is a lot to learn and all the training will be offered on site. The successful candidate will acquire a skill in the rubber industry which will be very valuable.
